auto scroll imovie timeline

The more I use the current version of iMovie the more angry I get, as everything worked fine in the older version. iMovie 10.1.6 . . . How can you get the timeline to autoscroll with playback in a project? The scrollbar moves with playback, but only to the end of the SCREEN. I have to stop playback and the screen will reposition itself in the current playback point, and then continue again. And if I try to manually scroll through a clip in the timeline, it does the same thing, I can only get to the end of the screen and it stops. WHAT? this is absurd. What am I missing?

Sorry but I am not familiar with any other video editors for Mac except FCPX. I used to use Final Cut Express but upgraded to Final Cut X. I find it to be a fine editor. There is a learning curve but if you have been using iMovie 10 it is not so bad and there are several good free tutorials to get you started. There is also a free 30 day trial to see if you like it.
