Connection error to iTunes Store

Can someone help me please? I have never had a problem connecting to the iTunes Store until two days ago. When I try and connect I get the following error message: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
My Network Connection is active. Nothing has changed on my computer that I am aware. So why all of a sudden can I not connect? I have been on the support pages and found nothing useful. I have tried the Network Diagnostice which just confirms at the bottom:
"Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out."
Help someone please??

Active Connection: LAN Connection
Connected: Yes
Online: Yes
Using Modem: No
Using LAN: Yes
Using Proxy: No
SSL 3.0 Support: Enabled
TLS 1.0 Support: Enabled

Firewall Information

Windows Firewall is off.

Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
The network connection timed out.

I am also having problems importing songs from a CD. The CD will not appear in devices or show me any of the tracks to be downloaded while there is an internet connection. If i kill the internet connection the cd will appear in devices, with the tracks, although not obviously named as i am not connected to the internet. Does anyone have any ideas whats going on ??

My iTunes store is working again - but I'm at work and not home. I just did a few things recently - I don't know if they were factors but here are my hunches. Hope they help.

Running WinXP Pro
Things were working before the Christmas break and did not afterwards. I am suspecting an XP patch that came out...

I was running Office 2007 (Beta) - just purchased the new final 2007. Uninstalled all beta software from microsoft, then installed the new 2007. Then rebooted.
I also decided to try downloading the new iTunes, and installed it. Afterwards everything has worked fine.

I suspect one of the following was a problem:
1. Microsoft has some kind of desktop search program which really slowed my system down. Perhaps that caused a timeout on my network connection. That software is gone.

2. Might be a patch installed conflicted with iTunes. My reinstallation of iTunes may have fixed this.

3. Conflict with MS Office 2007 B2TR. New version helped?

In the end I'll never know but hope that this never happens again. Arrgh.

FYI: located in Canada. I have all my antivirus and firewall software and hardware in place still. nothing else changed other than I reinstalled some software (which 99% of the time usually is the issues - software conflicts) I wonder also if there was something to do with reinstalling quick time when I reinstalled iTunes.

I am just another person who was looking forward to my ipod experience. I have used itunes in the past on my puter without a problem but i never downloaded anything. I haven't used it for say a year or so. I got an ipod for my daughter for christmas. I went to crank up itunes to get some songs and I got the dreaded 3212 error- check your connection. DUh my connection is fine.

I have just read your thread. I am starting the car. The ipod is in a bag in the back seat. I pull out of the driveway and am off to trade in my ipod for another Zen creative which has been great. NO PROBLEMS!!!!!!

I agree with the guy/gal above who wonders where apple is on this. I can't find any help for it!!!

apparently it does not mater how many people are having this problem, Apple has not had the courtesy to make a general post confirming that there is a problem, that they are or are not working on it, or other status.
I called support and was re-directed to this site again as well as sending an email to iTunes Store support.

Obviously this is quite fustrating for us all, and suggest that if you are still experiencing this problem, email them through link at: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/connect/

Perhaps many voices contacting support rather than just posting here can make a diference?

My problem was similar. I could browse the store just fine, but when I went to buy the tracks I would get an error message something like: "iTunes store not available. Try again later.". This was going on for several weeks now. I tried everything I could find in the forums: DNS refresh, Hosts file, firewall settings, etc...

I just got it to work. The last thing I did was to turn off all the SHIELD settings in my Webroot Spy Sweeper utility. Now the store seems to be working.

I'm not sure what exactly fixed it - whether it was just Spy Sweeper (one or more of the settings) or some combination of the many things I have changed over the past week. I just hope it keeps working. Although I'm not exactly comfortable with the SHIELDs being turned off...

I just got an email back from apple, and same BS, here's what they said:

I have verified that the iTunes Store is functioning and accepting connections, which indicates that the issue is related to your internet connection, local network, or your local computer itself. This article outlines some of the likely culprits:

I hope this information has been useful. If you need further assistance with your connection issue, just reply to this email and I will be happy to help.

what now???

Hi guys. Had the same problem with no connection.

through reading through the forums I figured I should change the firewall settings for ITUNES. AND IT WORKED.

you dont have to turn off your WHOLE firewall, just the particular settings for ITUNES. In Nortons it's like this:
- OPEN NORTON
- CLICK ON PERSONAL FIREWALL
- CLICK CONFIGURE
- CLICK THE TAB "PROGRAMES"
- SCROLL DOWN THE LIST TO FIND "APPLE ITUNES"
- UNDER THE COLUMN "INTERNET ACCESS" CLICK THE DOWNWARD ARROW TO SHOW A MENU, AND SELECT "PERMIT ALL"
- THEN OK

DEE DAA, should be ready to rock

However to be honest I'm not sure if this open you up to viruses? Anyone know?

my i tunes wont read my ipod!
i called and listened for about an hour to some automated guy just so he could tell me that i had to call back when someone would be available.
my i pod will charge but my i pod wont read in the i tunes.
my mom just recently bought an i pod and put hers on the same computer, is that why it wont read mine?
it is telling me to back up all of my songs, but i cant because i dont access to them on the computer to burn them on a disk because i tunes wont read the ipod.
i havent used it in about 6 months, and our computer crashed recently so that might have something to do with it also.
im going crazy!
someone please help!

I was having this problem yesterday. I reran the install application and repaired iTunes, but problem continued. This morning, opened iTunes and it worked. (I am concurrently running Firefox, so issue is not running one app at a time or the other, as was previously suggested.)

This doesn't offer a fix, but maybe the solution is patience. Or maybe the iTunes servers were overloaded.
