Footage Dashcam via SD card reader to iPad

Just before my summer holidays, I bought a VIOFO 119S dashcam that records footage and fotos on a micro SD-card.

To save some of the footage of the summer trip I also bought the apple SD card to lightning converter, to connect to my iPad via the lightning connection.

Now during my trip I try to watch and save some of the footage and fotos recorded on the micro SD card on my iPad, before they get overwritten by new footage.

It appears now, that the photos and film footage on the SD card is not "seen" by the iPad. I have not found an app yet to reveal those pictures and films.

Anybody any ideas?

Hi. Your SD card must be formatted as if it came from a camera, with a DCIM folder, and the files in it using a standard naming convention. See this link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_rule_for_Camera_File_system for the full details. See if the specs for your dashcam comply with this.

You will not find an app that can access the adapter directly. Transferring the photos and videos to the Photos app is a built-in feature of iOS.

Thanks Diana for your explanatio; now it has become clear to me. I thought it would be more straightforward with reading the SD card.

It means that I have made the wrong choice buying the VIOFO 119S; especially now that I see that VIOFO has presented a new model: the VIOFO WR1.

For this model VIOFO made an app allowing access to photos and videos via wifi.
