How to Delete Unwanted Genres in iTunes 12

I have a whole bunch of genres that I don't ever want to see again in my Genre dropdown list. You used to be able to delete them from previous versions of iTunes but I can't figure it out in iTunes 12. Any ideas?

The drop-down list shows only genres actually assigned to files. The only way to delete the genre from the list is to delete it from all songs using it. You can do this in the Songs view with the Genres listed at top of the window.

Select the Genre you don't want, select all songs for that genre, Get Info, change or delete the Genre field.

You cannot remove any of the built-in genres that are offered in the drop down list when using Get Info. It used to be possible to hack the file where these were stored but it no longer is. If you switch your library into the songs view and enable the column browser from the view menu (as shown above) you can see the genres that are present in your library and can selectively edit groups of tracks to remove any unwanted genres.
