I recently switched from iPhone 7 Max to the iPhone 11 ProMax. When I did the transfer I forgot to unlock the locked notes on my phone. I’d always used touch-ID to access them but on the 11 that isn’t an option. After scouring the Internet I found no solutions to get into these old notes. After resigning to delete these notes I was prompted to answer if I wanted to use Face-ID to delete the note. I said yes and the note was deleted. I then wondered if that had now enabled Face-ID for my other old locked notes and lo and behold - it did!!! I can now access my old notes!! So in deleting one I got access to the rest. I don’t know if sharing the note prompts the same thing but I can say deletion does. Hope this helps.

okay, now that i figured it out for myself. I upgraded a phone from one without face id to the iphone 11. so it doesn’t let you log into your old notes even if you reset the password. what you need to do is delete the note you want, then it will ask if you want to use face id. go to your recently deleted and you can unlock the notes! hope this helps

I have kinda the same problem, except I dont remember creating a separate password for my notes. I have always opened and closed these notes with fingerprint, not with my passcode and now that I have changed phone my locked notes are not opening anymore... It is always asking for a password but it is neither my passcode (old) nor my apple id password... Is this password one of these or is it something that you had to create specifically for the notes? Thanks!

well I’m pretty sure I didn’t create a separate password for my notes either. When I locked it’d ask for a password and I’d enter my phone password and it’d open. Then I deactivated the password and when trying to unlock the note the older password didn’t work, even when activating it again. I don’t think there’s a solution :/ as setting a new password for notes will only work on new notes. I hope you didn’t have anything important there.

After opening an email from someone in my phone contacts list It turned out to be malicious as the person who had sent was unaware his details had been taken and were being used improperly- result meant I changes my passwords for Appleid and several others quickly, however there was a possibility that I might still suffer loss of data from my notes - so since there were only two sensitive notes with all my relevant data both on my iPad and only one on my phone I decided to protect the iPad notes with passwords (not cloud items), what a mistake. DON’T EVER USE THIS PASSWORD FEATURE as password problems render notes irrecoverable. One day later I find that my new password fails (no mistakes no mis-entering of the password) to open the locked notes, most of my data relates to business accounts, government accounts and banking security so I now face a mountain of work to to work through each loss and recover my own data. I did read the help texts and was careful with checking that the. Toes worked afterwards but...... Murphy’s Law applies!

Sad that there is no double or even triple I’d verification process for the user to recover this password problem and we pay highly for the hardware and software we use.

If you locked your notes after a backup then there is some hope. If you have a backup available that was created by Time Machine before you locked your notes, then you can use the Migration Assistant with that particular Time Machine backup to revert your system. After the migration is completed you will be able to view your notes without a password.

I had the same problem. If you don’t already have Face ID set up, set it up and make it so that Face ID can be used on locked notes as well. Go into your notes and use the newly set Face ID to unlock your notes and once you’ve gained access to the notes, remove the lock and set a new notes password. Then you can remove Face ID if you want. This is what worked for me but it will probably only work if you don’t already have Face ID set up.

After a while of you putting in the password wrong they’ll ask you if you wanna use facial recognition if you have a facial recognition on the phone as for if you don’t I’m not sure quite how you reset it but all mines asked for is my facial recognization if I wanted to use it and I clicked yes and it just scanned my face and I was able to get him back to my notes
