Using Earpods with 3.5 mm Headphone Jack

Hi Everyone,

The new wired Apple Earpods using a lightning connector, which connects to the same spot as the power for an iPhone or iPad.

In theory this seems reasonable....however...as the battery is used up, you have no good way of listening and keeping the device powered.

For example, you're watching a 2 hour movie on your iPad.

Another scenario is that you cannot plug the Apple Earpods into your Macbook Pro where there is only a 3.5 mm connector.

I've seen products on the market that have a female 3.5 mm connector to the lightning connector....however, I have not seen a lightning connector to a male 3.5mm connector.

Does anyone know of a good solution to connect the lightning connector to a 3.5mm audio headphone jack?

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Deggie,

Thanks for the reply. It is unfortunate that Apple or a 3rd Party does not have a solution for the 3.5mm.

The Belkin Rockstar you mentioned works well for Lightning connectors - one for the power and one for the earpods.

What I would really like to get a solution for is how to connect the earpods to my Macbook Pro.

Much appreciated.

You can also use the Apple provided Lightning to 3.5mm adapter with the Belkin.

I doubt you are going to see a solution for the MBP due to the various circuitry involved. Someone might be able to make a device but it would probably be ungainly and expensive. Maybe Apple will add a Lightning port someday instead.
