Just started using the Dictation function in other proprietary Apple apps like Notes and was curious why Dictation is not available in FCPX. Or is there a settings checkbox I overlooked somewhere within FCPX?

Actually I was trying to figure out if you could convert voice to text in FCPX the way you can in Notes for example, using the Dictation method. My curiosity about this began with a thread I had read from creativecow.net regarding the third party plugin "FCPXtra". One of the features of that plugin is the ability to convert voice to text via dictation. But someone suggested that there was a way to do it within FCPX itself without having to purchase the $50 plugin. I asked how but didn't get a reply yet. I just figured I would ask here as well.
It works fine. But you have to be "inside" any kind of text field.

How would this differ from Voiceover?
Dictation converts voice to text. I guess the OP wants it for titles or subtitles or something.
OK, the fellow in that thread just replied. It turns out that it does work. You can dictate text into the Notes field. I didn't know that. This could save a lot of time with subtitles.
You can dictate into any text field!
Double click a title text in the Viewer and dictate.
