Itunes freezes when i connect my ipod classic

I have a 160gb iPod Classic, its around 7 years old now and recently it wiped itself. it now tells me to connect to iTunes to restore it, but when I do that iTunes freezes. I have another iPod (nano) which is older than my classic and it works with iTunes fine. I really want to fix my classic as it has 160gb memory compared to 4gb. My computer doesn't even recognise the iPod anymore and its really frustrating me. I just want my iPod back!!!!

The iPod nano shows up on my computer and iTunes, but when I connect my classic nothing happens.

Please help, I want my iPod back!!

Hello SerenaWilo2574,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

I see that when you connect your iPod classic to your computer iTunes freezes. It's important to make sure that you have access to iTunes so you can manage the content on your device, so I'll be happy to assist.

I suggest trying the troubleshooting steps in support article: If iTunes doesn‘t respond when you connect an iOS device .

Let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards.

I have this problem now also — iPod classic 160GB now freezing iTunes when connected — the article you referenced is for troubleshooting when the iPod is not recognized; Our problem is that it is freezing.

A couple months ago, I went to use my iPod after syncing, and there was no media on the iPod at all; I figured I had accidently turned syncing off or something — I finally had a chance to address it today, and when I connected it to my iMac and launched iTunes, it was renamed as EFI (I never did this) and was indeed blank.

I clicked restore, as the whole thing seemed like an error, and it was originally formatted for windows anyway.

It stalled during the restore process; I had to force quit iTunes, and force eject the iPod. Now, when I connect the iPod, it launches and freezes iTunes, every time.

The iPod restarts okay, and works, but with no media, and iTunes works, as long as the iPod isn't plugged in.

Please advise.

Richard
