Windows Automatic Updates and/or Intel Website Downloads are not valid. The only valid updates must come from Apple Software Updates.

The version mentioned in Re: Has anyone successfully updated to Windows Creator in bootcamp on a MacMini late 2014? by yabba235 (15.40.36.4703) is located on the Intel website at Download Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.40] . This specific version may or may not work for you. The link may be removed by Intel in the future.

It is related to the way Creators Update is installed (using a SysPrep), which does not grandfather the already installed/working Intel GPU driver. Once it is uninstalled, it cannot be re-installed under Creators Update. I suggest lodging complaints/bugs with M$. 😉

Unless the installation process is modified, there is no workaround as of now. If you want to try it, download VMware Fusion, create a VM of Anniversary Update, and then upgrade to Creators Update and check the GPU driver version. You can then try a Winclone restore of the VM to the physical partition.

This is solely at the door of Apple as the OEM.

OEM's are responsible for compatible drivers for the hardware that they manufacture/bundle.

Apple advertise Windows 10 compatibility via bootcamp, still sell the affected models now (sell them as compatible with Windows 10), but have not updated the driver for GPU since 2015. (Check bootcamp driver version details).

Intel will not assist as Apple ***customised*** the iris 5100 GPU chip from the Intel standard and so Apple must port the latest Intel drivers to be compatible with Apple's customised chip hardware ( and this is the issue, Apple are not porting the latest Intel drivers to be compatible ). That's why Intel send you to Apple support and will not assist.

Apple will direct you to Microsoft as it's their hardware, but Microsoft look up the affected hardware and say "the Iris 5100 has compatibility with Creators 1703" but Apple's version of the Iris 5100 isn't compatible - they then pass you back to Apple as the OEM.

The same driver works on Anniversary Update, but cannot be installed on Creators Update. Is this a compatible upgrade? This can impact other drivers as well, but on the 2014 Mini, it affects the Intel GPU driver.

Well the picture is starting to develop clearly now. Nobody wants to take the proper steps to fix this. Apple blaming Microsoft blaming Intel blaming Apple. Not a chance at this moment. Hopefully someone steps up. The Apple bootcamp bunch of users has to be a fairly LARGE base of people. Comeon guys, do your thing and fix this. Just make for bad PR....

Test the following. On the Mini in Anniversary Update, fall back to the Generic VGA driver by removing/uninstalling the Intel driver, and removing the adapter. You may also need to run pnputil.exe to clean the DrvStore to remove the Intel driver files, otherwise a reboot will try to re-install it.

Test the Creators Update/Upgrade, and if successful, re-install the W10 BC6 Intel driver. Do not use any other Intel GPU driver.

Remember, back ups are important for your own safety.

Thanks for the reply. Is your method a tested solution that works on the Mac Mini 2014? I have wasted so much time on this issue already that I am unable to test your solution. What I am trying to gather is this, has anybody found a workable solution yet? Has anyone successfully installed Windows Creator on a Mac mini 2014 with the Intel 5100 gpu chip? Have Apple, MS, or Intel solved this. According to this thread, no solution was forthcoming as of September 16, 2017 from any of those companies. Has this changed in the meantime, any announcements, does anyone have info? Thanks!

This is a reply from Japan. (So the time stamp is Japan standard time.)

I confirmed that the above solution worked and successfully updated to Windows Creator in bootcamp on Mac mini late 2014.

However, as I couldnt understand the exact meaning of re-install the W10 BC6 Intel driver”, I havent tried to re-install BC6 Intel driver.

So, my machine is currently running on Microsoft basic display driver”, with display resolution 1920 x 1080.

So far, my machine has been working fine with no trouble.

Considering that Windows10 Fall creators update is coming up next week, and the same driver issue may occur during updating to Fall creators, I'll keep using Microsoft basic display driver”, and see if updating to Fall creators using Microsoft basic display driver would work.

I ll let know the result next week.

Has anyone successfully updated to Windows Creator in bootcamp on a MacMini late 2014?
