Really? I have auto-login off, and my current phone drops Wi-Fi when the screen locks. As has every iPhone I have ever owned, back to the original 10 years ago.

Mine doesn't disconnect from the WiFi when locked, like it always have (3-4 years), but started doing it since recent updates. Hey, maybe your phone is just one of the billion iPhones that does it?

Nope, every one I've ever had (and every other similar BT device) drops the WiFi connection when it goes to sleep and is not on external charging.

Have you tried turning the auto login off as well?
