I'm afraid Mavericks is no longer available. If your Mac is capable of handling Sierra you can upgrade to that for free. If it isn't, but is capable of handling El Capitan you can upgrade to that using this special link:

Connecting to the Mac App Store

Note that if your Mac is capable of handling Sierra this link is not available to you.

Your only other upgrade is Mountain Lion (10.8) which is available in the USA (but not the UK) in the Apple Store:

OS X Mountain Lion - Apple

The requirements for Mountain Lion and El Capitan are:

  • OS X v10.6.8 or later
  • 2GB of memory
  • 8GB of available space

and the supported models are:

  • iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)

Sierra is limited to the following machines:

  • MacBook (Late 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
  • iMac (Late 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Mid 2010 or newer)
