I would like to rid my mac of Zombie cookies and ccleaner app has been recommended.
My question is if I restrict the use of the c cleaner just to this purpose is it safe?

Agree with tjk and Malwarebytes; would not recommend running CCleaner. CCleaner, if not configured precisely and specifically for minimal impact, can and will run through your operating systems and trash critical plists, other Library files, and wreak unmitigated mayhem on your system. Not fun.

First, run Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/
Most people here on the forum are strictly against any such app, as they can "clean" things they shouldn't, plus slow down your system. If you insist on using it, make sure you backup immediately before using it so you can revert back to the state previous to using ccleaner if things go badly.

Lots of people are not happy with the fact that there are cookies that show a 0 bytes that keep repopulating. I don't know if it's a bug or some sort of normal process.

I never paid any attention to them until a couple of threads sprung up here. I have far more interesting things to do with my time than worry about 0 byte cookies. I don't understand all the anxiety.
zombie cookies are cookies embedded within adobe flash.. You delete them as you would any other cookie and they come right back. Hence the name zombies. They are very difficult to kill or get rid of. My purpose of using the ccleaner app is just to eliminate my zombies, not to mess with anything else. I [to quote the Beatles" keep a clean machine with a little help from Mac Pro."
I am willing to waste my time on any intrusions into my affairs. Advertising is a necessary activity in life however there must be some resistance to constant barrage of nefarious , sneaky manipulation tactics that the advertising industry employ.Many pop ups that appear are a result of zombies lurking in my machine .I employ an ad blocker and that helps a lot . I want my machine to be clean. Die Zombies. Leave me to my life.
I am also in ageement on the employment of a cleaner however ,I would only use the cookie section of the app.
I do not want to do anything except install it, and use that section and I wonder if the simple act of installing could still cause a problem. These Zombies are on my kill list and I will rid them one way or another.
CCleaner can ferret out stuff & get rid of it, but could cause a problem. It was for years only a Windows program. If you're bound and determined to go zombie hunting, make a backup, install CCleaner, hunt the zombies, restart your Mac, and test things out. At least have a way to get back to a working operating system if CCleaner torpedoes any boot / system files --- ouch... Or, backup & dig into the Library (option -> Go to expose Library in Finder), go zombie hunting that way. Or if you're familiar with terminal, poke around with the command line (backup before doing anything). Good luck!
Thank you that is good advice.& I shall follow it. I know where the zombie lair is , buried in flash storage. I've been in there and found them but could not kill them. You have to go on Adobe ,on line,where they have an interactive site that takes you right to them where you are suppose to be able to set up a gate or barrier for who gets in and who is banned and eliminate the ones that don't belong. Still they would not die.
