iPhone calendars "Unable to update"

My iPhone calendars will not sync/update. When I open the calendar app at the bottom in red it shows today, & inbox. To the immediate left of the word "Calendars" at the bottom is an exclamation mark in a circle, when I tap calendars at the bottom to view my list of calendars "Unable to update calendars" is shown.

i have never had issues with calendars, I have turned iCloud on/off and the phone on/off but no luck.

I had the same problem after upgrading my iPhone 6 to iOS 11.

I fixed it by removing an internet calendar subscription.

iOS 11: Settings > Accounts & Passwords

ACCOUNTS :

I selected the non-critical subscribed calendar and deleted the subscription.

Hey zooluu

I don't quite understand your suggested steps to fix

What is a non-critical subscribed calendar and how do you find these?

Under settings> accounts & password - I have app&web passwords and then list of my email accounts (which I have several, icloud, work, gmail etc), then option to fetch new data.

Can you explain more (and super simple for a non techy)

Thanks

Dani
