help organizing bookmarks in safari
A short backstory: I have used Safari for years. I do sync my bookmarks across my iphone and ipad.
I've also tried Firefox and Chrome at times.
At one point, I imported the bookmarks I had in FF or Chrome, back to Safari. When I did that, if looks like they all got loaded at the end of my safari book marks. So, at this point my bookmarks look to be in three groups:
- Favorites
- Bookmarks Menu
- and a long list of folders.
In the last group, some of the folder names are the same as those I have in the bookmarks menu group.
At this point, I want to go through the 3 groups, see where I have duplicate folders and bookmarks, get rid of those and then sort it down to just
Favorites and Bookmarks Menu
In my own opinion, I've overused the Favorites and need to thin that group down to a true favorites list, with fewer bookmarks here, and have the Bookmarks Menu group be a list of well thought out folders and subfolders to allow them to be more user friendly and worthwhile.

Here is my question. I searched for some tips on organizing bookmarks and found an article from a while back, that shows as update as of July 6, 2017. In this article, the writer describes a way to copy a bookmark folder to the desktop, edit it there, which is easier than within the bookmark list itself and then to drag it back. I am not able to duplicate the process. I am able to drag the folder onto my desktop and edit and reorder them. I just cannot figure out how to get the folder back into the bookmarks folder. I am hoping someone here knows if this is actually possible as it would be a big help in cleaning up the many folders that I need to go through.
Is there a way to copy/move the editied folder from my desktop back into the bookmarks folder in Safari 10.1.2 ???
Thank you for any help,
Michelle
