Opera 46.0 Browser- how to set home page?

I downloaded the Opera browser last night: version 46.0

On an iMac, Mac OS Sierra v. 10.12.6

When I go to set the home page to Apple.com, (or anything else) it always defaults and opens to a google page with a default wallpaper.

I'm going to preferences>browser> then under "on startup)- open a specific page or pages (set pages) And I set to Apple.com (or whatever). I close the browser after doing that, and back to the default google page with default wallpaper.

What am I doing wrong? I even watched a video to make sure I wasn't screwing up- thanks.

Sounds like a corrupt preference file, ok so lets try moving the Opera preference file out, and restarting Opera.

Then input your www.apple.com/ipad as your start up page.

The preference file you need to locate is in the file path Macintosh HD/Users/<home folder>/Library/Preferences/com.operasoftware.Opera.plist. See example below.

User uploaded file

Now the Users home folder Library is hidden by default, unless you have already unhidden it, so in Finder click on Go in the menubar, when you see the drop down menu, press the alt/option key and the Library should popup, click on it then access the Preferences folder. Once you have located the preference file drag it to the trash, don't empty the trash.

Now restart the mac, relaunch Opera, go to Browser preferences put in the page you want Opera to start on. Quit Opera, relaunch Opera hopefully it will now open on the page you want.

If you are happy then you can empty the trash, a new preference file was created when you restarted the mac.

Thanks for your speedy reply.

I relaunched, cleared history/cache. Used EtreCheck to check for Malware, etc. All is good.

On Safari I can change the homepage.

On Opera I can make the homepage blank, change wallpaper, etc. Strange. I'm sure it's something I'm doing.

I'll see if I can screen movie and show you what's happening.
