Is it possible to open an application directly from the iTunes Library?

How do you determine whether an application can be downloaded to your MacBook Pro? I went to the App Store and downloaded DirecTV, which appears in my iTunes Library under Apps, not Apps for iPad or iPhone; however, I cannot open any of the apps in the library directly from the library. So, is it not possible to open an application directly from within the iTunes Library?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013), macOS Sierra (10.12.2)

iTunes shows only iOS apps, so they will not launch on your Mac. To download Mac apps, go to the Mac App Store.

Instead of downloading iOS apps in iTunes, download them directly on the appropriate device. This way, the App Store is smart enough to let you download only apps compatible with that particular device and iOS version.
