Remove VPN icon from Status Bar

Remove VPN icon from Status Bar

I had a Virtual Private Network app installed and deleted it. The VPN icon remains in the Status Bar of my MacBookPro. Can I remove it?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Hold the Command key and drag it off of your menu bar.

If it comes back, check your User > Login Items.

I fear that's not an option, since I used Hotspot Shield's uninstall function and it still left pieces that Etrecheck doesn't locate. I was hoping perhaps for a Terminal solution to eliminate the icon.

You did not delete it completely. Follow the instructions from the developer of the VPN client you installed.
