I have just moved back to Australia after living in Hong Kong and it appears that my new internet connection (provider: Belong) at home wont connect on WiFi only via a lan cable i keep getting the below message, but if i plug in the Lan cable and leave the wifi on it connects so im connected to both.. please help!
Wi-Fi has the self-assigned IP address 169.254.27.206 and will not be able to connect to the Internet.

It is normal for your Mac to give itself a self-assigned IP address when your Mac starts up. It then broadcasts a request for a Router to please give it a "good" DHCP IP address. Normally, this happens so quickly that the self-assigned IP address is gone in an instant.
When your Mac can not get a "good" IP address over the air, it is generally caused by inability to talk to the Router.
System Preferences > Network > (assist me) > diagnostics ...
... is intended to fix any gross errors and get you on the air.
Please note any error messages if you can not make the connection.
When your Ethernet is also connected, the request for a "good" IP address for the Wi-Fi can go over the Ethernet.
