FCPX crash on file import

1) What is this Carbonite thing that is using up a full CPU core?

2) You have little free space (less than 10%) on your system drive.

As a general rule, all drives need some "breathing" space, especially the system drive, where your OS is always writing caches, sleepimages, etc. If you are storing your libraries in there, you really need a fast external drive.

I have a similar problem but managed to narrow it down to "Importing video files crash FCPX". Importing images or audio files don't crash FCPX.
I have 3 folders on my external hard drive, IMAGES, AUDIO and VIDEOS. Importing from IMAGES or AUDIO is fine. FCPX crashes as soon as I select VIDEOS.

I copied some of my videos into IMAGES and AUDIO and now FCPX crashes on those folders too.

I have deleted my preferences but this didn't fix anything.

I use Mac OS High Sierra + FCPX 10.4 on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)

Currently, FCPX is completely unusable and I must use Adobe Premiere instead. The horror. Please help!

I solved my problem - this may help other people:

- in my case, the videos that crash FCPX are videos downloaded from Youtube. Exporting them under an other name and an other format (.mov) prevents FCPX to crash!

I have discovered that some videos cause the crash. In my case, all my videos created by my dash cam cause FCPX 10.4 to crash (10.3 did not crash). I found that if I open those videos in QuickTime and then export them from QuickTime, and I check the box "Use HEVC" (I haven't tried it without checking the box), that the exported files will work in FCPX - No crash.

Of course if in FCPX I import files, and navigate to any folder that has any of the original video files, FCPX will crash when go to that folder. Then I must delete the preference before I can run FCPX again.

The audio and the non-standard, probably variable, frame rate are most likely causing the problems. I'd recommend converting the files to H.264 48K at 29.97fps. Don't use the Finder or QuickTime as they might pass the frames through without correcting the frame rate.

I've had the same thing happen to me. A movie file that iMovie and FCPX didn't like was causing the instant crash. Either get rid of the file or open it with QuickTime and export to another format.

A quick solution for me to stop the crash is get all files form the said folder, remove them to another place and reinsert them one by one (easy on fewer files case scenario), after that recompress the "guilty one" on h264 29,97fps. But I hope a fix for Final Cut on the next version solve the issue because is **** annoying

You're quite right that the SSD is the boot drive; I had the read the report too hastily. I hope the reinstall solves it. Let us know how it goes.

Carbonate is a cloud backup service. It runs all the time, and is a real hog. One of the reasons I stopped using it.

Hey, i just had the exact same problem and it was due to only one explicit file that was on my desk. Did you download anything with a youtube converter?

Does it also crash if you run from a new admin user account?

I would try uninstalling Magnet and see if that makes a difference.
