Your "Unlocking" instructions don't work!

Your answer on unlocking an iPhone 6 instructs me to either "Restore" to factory settings or to a backup. How am I supposed to do this, when I can't get past the screen that has the message that the SIM card isn't compatible and won't work? It just keeps asking me to try again. I can't get to any other screen!

If you have backed up your phone, then you will restore the device to factory to complete the unlock. At that time, you should see a message on the screen, "Congratulations, your phone has been unlocked". It has been a while, the text might be a little different. After you have done that and activated the device, you will be able to go back and restore your backup.

That message states that the device is still locked. Unlocking a phone that is locked to a carrier requires that you contact that carrier and see if they provide unlocking services. If so, do you qualify for the unlock. Then follow their instructions to complete the unlock.

Seeing the message you describe shows the device is still locked to a carrier, and the SIM you have inserted is not for that carrier.

Chris,

Thank for the response. My question has to do after the things you mention are complete. I have already contacted ATT and confirmed the iphone can be unlocked and requested they unlock it. ATT responded with an email that says they approved the unlocking. I am now at the point where I am trying to figure out how to implement the unlocking of my phone. When I searched this data base, I found an answer that was a much better description of what to do. However, the steps they outlined do not work and that is what I was referring to and questioning.
