How to block "Unknown Caller" ID

I'm receiving annoying calls with an "Unknown Caller" ID. I've tried copying the name to my caller block list, but it wouldn't take. Next, I resorted to creating contacts for "Unknown Caller" by first and last name, but that failed. Finally, I assigned a silent ring tone to the contact by the name "unknown caller" but was amazed when the phone still rang. My only recourse is what I've always done, simply not answering any calls tagged "unknown caller" but I need to know if I've exhausted all of my options.

The answer given below is unacceptable! If my iPhone is programmed to display “Unknown caller” when there is no caller ID then that is enough information to block the call. Seems simple! For the outrageous price that we all pay for these Apple products we should be able to get a feature we want rather than only the ones Steve Jobs thinks are necessary. So may a system update that corrects this shortcoming will be out soon.

"The answer given below is unacceptable!" I'm sorry, but the phone displays Unknown Caller because no information is coming through the Caller ID. That is not enough to block the call, since the calls are blocked based on a number.

"So may a system update that corrects this shortcoming will be out soon", the answer to that is no. Since there is no way to block a call without a number. The cost of the device has nothing to do with it. If the phone does not get information from the call, there is no way to block it.

You can’t block an unknown caller. Why not ? It’s technically very easy today to block a call from “unknown caller “. This Sunday morning so far I’ve gotten four calls from “Apple Support” as an unknown caller. I know they are “Apple Support” because they leave that name and this phone number — 201-380-6029.

So now they are scamming Apple Support. Seems to me that Apple now has a vested interest in allowing us to block unknown or no caller id (hint = *67). Or will it take a class action lawsuit to make Apple implement this feature to help reduce fraud, unless of course this is a valid call and number from Apple support.

Clearlynif Samsung can do it Apple can do it. (Actually Apple could do it even if Samsung didn’t do it.) Ignoring this issue or giving misleading information isn’t going to make it go away.

To save you from wasting time. AT&T Call Protect explicitly DOES NOT block calls from Unknown Caller or 'No Caller ID'.

"The provider might also offer an app that can help with this by at least identifying known telemarketers. For example, here’s one for AT&T customers:

AT&T Call Protect by AT&T Services, Inc.

What a load of hooey. First, the phone knows enough to display that the Caller ID is unknown. Bingo. Simply do not ring or even acknowledge the call if this feature is tuned on. Second, ALL Samsung phones provide this feature as standard. Third many (most) home telephone systems provide this feature. It is not done by the telco but rather by the home phone system. Mine does it.

Apple is not providing this feature, which has been requested for ten years, for a specific business reason. There is NO technical reason why this could not be accomplished with a minor dot release of iOS. After all there are numerous third party apps that do it.

Apple, get your stuff together and do this!!!

Since the actual number used by “unknown caller” is not known and always changes, it’s not possible to block it at the receiving phone.

Some cellular companies offer blocking at their server end. Log into your cellular provider website and see if there’s an option to block unknown callers, or known spammers.

So it would be a good idea if people did this, maybe if apple is not interested in doing what is best for customers it will do what is best for Apple. That said with the Facebook privacy issues I think tech providers may be pushed to give their customers better control of privacy, seems to be blocking these "unknown caller" phone spammers is a good place to start!
