FaceTime greyed out for ONE contact

Question

FaceTime greyed out for ONE contact

This is happening on the iPhone only.

For ONE contact, I can't access the FaceTime call button.

Also I cannot access that with the FaceTime app (top line).

I have been reading on this forum and others, and tried many options but nothing works.

That person changed phone number. Everything works on his side and with anyone else.

And same with me, except on my side, on the iPhone.

Because on the Mac, I can FaceTime with him and all the options aren't greyed.

Help, please.

i’m having this exact same issue w/ one iphone contact w a grayed out facetime buttom in the contact. have we found any solutions?

Yes. Every other possibilities works.

He can make and receive FaceTime call to anyone, and to me to.

On my side I can make and receive FaceTime call to anyone as well, and to him too (using my Mac, and even using my phone by asking Siri to do it for me).

But the FaceTime icon stays grey out for that user only.

Interesting.

I tried that over and over again. Also removed all my contacts and add them again by icloud reset and still same issue.

I wonder if my phone has a trace somewhere of the "old" phone number for this user. Since that number is no longer assigned, FaceTime decides it won't work.

But the FaceTime call still works around that. It is weird.

have you removed just the phone number and saved it? does it then come up to face time etc? (if they have this email address on their iPhone account)

when saved and then go back in and put the number in. Don't copy and paste the number put it in manually and don't restore from icloud etc.

I have the same problem but opposite. My friend had an iPhone but no longer does. My phone thinks she still does and shows that FaceTime is available when it's not. It's not really a problem for me except that when she sends me a picture, it errors out ever time. I can send to her, no problem and she can send to other iPhones with no problem, but not to me. I think it has something to do with the fact my phone still believes this number can do iMessages and FaceTime. I've deleted her completely from both iphone and iPad, even restarted them, and when I add her number back, it enables the FaceTime function. We checked and her number was deregistered from imessages, so we're stumped now. Somewhere, something, keeps a list that isn't being updated, I guess.

Hi,

Okay, I've looked this up, if he/she forgets to sign out of iMessage etc then apple servers will keep the number as a iMessage number for 3 months, however, that person can call up apple and ask them to deactivate it for them.
