My new 2017 MacBook keyboard is too loud. Is there any way to make it quieter?

The Macbook contains an Apple-designed Butterfly keyboard. This keyboard is there because a traditional "scissor" keyboard would break the MacBook because of it's extreme thinness. The butterfly keyboard has a very short key-travel, and it can take some getting used too. In time, your fingers will learn not to hit the keys so hard, reducing the volume.

I had the same issue, I bought a keyboard protector and I have to press down so hard on the keys! I know I will get used to it, but it just doesn't feel like using a Macbook. I am so used to Mac's feather touch keys 😟

+1 I'm also annoyed by the new keyboard. Apple design team went completely for functionality and apparently didn't do enough user experience testing. The keys may be more efficient but at the cost of irritable neighbors in close quarters.

I'm not about to get a keyboard protector either. I doubt that was how the product design team intended things to go.

I have the same issue. I didn't hear it in the showroom or I would never have bought it. I can't type in an open plan office or on a plane witjout upsetting people around me. And I've tried to type softly but it doesn't make much of a difference and it slows me down

Unfortunately my fingers are not learning 'not to hit the keys so hard'. Why didn't they work out how to soften the sound when producing a a butterfly keyboard. Additionally there is no rapid delete. You have to hit the delete key over and over to delete each letter of a word.

It's an ill-considered keyboard. I will be taking the computer back to Apple.

By the keyboard being loud, do you mean that it is typing loud? You should take it to the Apple Store or an authorized seller, and compare noise output to a MacBook in the store of the same generation and spec. If it is the same or about the same, you could get a keyboard protector that dampens sound like this one - Moshi ClearGuard Keyboard Protector for Aluminum MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air - Apple.

I have the same issue- were you able to solve it? It is very annoying as I cannot take it to meetings for example, or to bed as it is too loud...

Sorry, I am still venting; but, I am just not getting used to beating down on the keys, and what's worse is that I paid $2k for this and will be stuck with it for the next 3 years 😢😢😢
