Call me suspicious, but there are plenty of stores with Apple logos selling Apple stuff that are not affiliated with Apple in any way. To find an Apple Store or an authorized reseller start here: https://locate.apple.com/.

It doesn't really matter though if you purchased a used Mac from a private individual. Purchasing a used Mac is best left to very experienced, knowledgeable Mac users. Upon consideration of all that entails you will be likely to conclude Apple's Refurbished and Clearance page will generally offer prices within a few dollars of those offered by private sellers. For that, you will receive a Mac that is essentially indistinguishable from new, with a new battery and identical AppleCare warranty and support options.

Becoming a knowledgeable purchaser of used Macs requires an investment of time or money, and usually both. If overpaying a bit for that Mac is the worst thing you ever do, you're doing OK.

Thank you John!

I had not seen your reply until now......Yes he did say that he had had installed some expensive stuff but I don't know what he had added exactly. ( :/ ) Is it possible to check on the computer... I paid 1600€!

I could post here what I see under "storage" without the UUID

Yes I know I have been very green, im not usually this stupid, really im not! (I thought the technicien who was cleaning it up said 2016 ...hum hum!) I was somewhat horrified when I bought it back home. It was, in fact, only the technicien who was available and who "verbally sold" it to me.

That's quite a lot (about $1900 US) but prices in Europe are affected by VAT where medical insurance is "free".

The only information missing from your description is the storage capacity. Without it, I'm reluctant to conclude the price you paid was unreasonable.

Please do. The UUID is cryptic and meaningless but you certainly don't have to post it.

That configuration describes a mid-range MBP. Today's price for that Mac ranges from about $850 to $920 US or 712€ to 771€. Those are US market prices. That more narrow range will be determined by cosmetic condition and battery usage.

Macs in nearly new cosmetic condition with new Apple-installed batteries including all original packaging and correctly restored to their originally installed operating systems will command the highest prices.

Having said that you will always be able to purchase a Mac cheaper in the US than anywhere else. The used equipment market in France will obviously be quite different than elsewhere, and I am unable to provide any insight regarding those differences.

Even if you were to purchase a Mac in the US and take it to France, you would need to pay import duties. So, it's still difficult for me to say if you overpaid or not. Meanwhile, you have a very capable Mac that will serve you well for many years. Don't beat yourself up over the purchase.
