itunes 12.6 does not allow drag & drop to create a play list. What to do instead?

I don't know what really is wrong with the team that manages itunes in apple. Because seriously every time they release a new update, they destroy something that had worked well for years. Now I updated itunes to 12.6.2.20 which is the latest as of now, but I no longer am able to create a simple playlist like I did before. I used to drag a folder of my desired songs and drop them in the section that says edit playlist but now once I do that, the mouse cursor changes to a stop sign and after releasing the left click, nothing happens. Can any body tell me what can I do to create a simple playlist without adding all songs to the itunes library and choose from them? As far as I know, that is the only option left which means that I have to add 3000 songs all at once to the library and choose from them for each of my playlists. Oh and by the way I am on a Windows PC. Thanks.

Don't use the edit playlist link. The playlist organizer that shows on the right of the screen isn't ideal for adding new content from the file system. More importantly don't have content on the device selected when trying to add files from the computer. To make it easy just disconnect the device. Everything that iTunes is going to manage must be added to the library. Then it can be synced from the library to the device. See animated gif on previous page.

I did that, but it didn't work. Is there any other free software which can be a good substitute for itunes? My problem is that I have 900 GB of nearly 2000 audio books which is a lot of audio files. I want to be able to create a playlist with the name of each book because let's say each book, for example, has 20 tracks, track 01, track 02 and so on that makes it impossible to sync them all in itunes library and then create playlist. So the only option is to drag the folder and drop, but **** does not work.

But it really works. Make the playlist, drag in the content. When you're over an area where you can usefully drop the content it will be bordered in blue. The header of a playlist is one area that isn't acceptable.

See Audiobooks on iPods for some further suggestions.

If your files are already arranged in author and book folders you might find my script ImportFolderStructure useful.

I've done everything before creating this topic. I even uninstalled itunes, bonjour, apple software update and... then deleted everything with the name of apple from my whole system, hidden or not hidden. Then reinstalled itunes again, but the problem still exists. Here is what I do: create a playlist>edit playlist>clearly see on the right where it says drag and drop itmes to add to the playlist>I drag a song or folder>I bring it there but the cursor shows a prohibited/stop sign>I release the click to drop it and nothing happens. Others have also had this issue, I've tried everything they said on the net, but it does not work. Oh and I'm not gonna call apple support coz you know better than me that it is a waste of time. I've tried other software such as ifunbox, but coz of apples tight and close ecosystem, nothing worked.

I already did that, but it didn't work. Now some body told me to download this and use it instead of itunes:

Apowersoft Phone Manager PRO 2.8.8 مدیریت دستگاه اندرویدی و iOS در ویندوز - دانلود رایگان .

I will install it and see if I can get through. If so, then definitely itunes will be a lonely software in my PC. I think if apple wants to fight with Microsoft, they'd better kick out office from app store, not depriving the PC user from the very rights of drag and drop, just to make them move towards apple. Of course, I was thinking about migrating to iMac, but this is really insane. My PC still works, so I don't wanna waste some money on a new machine.

I'm on Windows 10 and I do exactly what you did, but as soon as the mouse cursor (that has the shortcut of the selected files hung on it) enters the border of itunes, it becomes like a stop sign and after I release the click, nothing happens. Songs are not added. I think you are in windows 7 and that's why you can do that. Maybe it's something wrong with Microsoft.

I know what you're talking about, but I've done that before. I've disconnected iphone, created a playlist in main itunes menu, draged files and same thing happened. I really don't know what the **** is going on with the drag and drop. All I can say is stay in windows 7 and never ever update your itunes coz you'll be stuck in the same situation. Do you know if there is anything I can do with, let's say ifiles or anything else? Of course that is another pain in the chest coz I'm on iOS 10.3.3 which is not jailbroken yet.

U can do the following, I just tried to import all of my main music folder to the itunes library. then made a simple playlist and added those songs from the side panel > songs > to the playlist and so to the phone itself. Tho it costed my nerves lol. but however i did it. just do as i showed. ik its tiresome but its the only solution. and if it wont put in the playlist just do a copy/paste..thats how i redone the playlist in my iphone 6. and still it wont do a dragn drop. its just itunes' drag n drop function is NOT for win 10..i hope it helps. lol it took me like 6hrs to figure this thing out..

itunes 12.6 does not allow drag & drop to create a play list. What to do instead?
