  • OK, I've downloaded and installed the free version of PhoneRescue
  • Logged in trough PR on my iCloud
    • Had to turn of 2 factor authentication temporary
    • and changed my iCloud password temporary just for PhoneRescue (so the app wont get my normal passw!)
  • Then I chose 'Recover From iCloud Backup", and chose the latest iOS 10 backup
  • Then I've only selected to download app data, and now it's downloading.... (12:30)
  • Nothing really started to download after 15 minutes (0,0%) and I've read you have to have a license to actually get to your backups, so I've bought a license and tried downloading the app data again...

So PhoneRescue didn't work. The download progress bar was stuck on 0%.

I've now recovered all the photos out of my iVault app! Dates and names are all messed up, but the photos are there!

Unfortunately if the app was deleted then any information residing in the app would be deleted as well. Of course a backup would most likely be able to recover it but without that you're out of luck. The only other "possible" way would be to send to a data recovery company to see if they can extract anything but where the photos resided within another app I would say the possibility is very small.

Apple doesn’t support this but look up on Google how to downgrade to 10.3.3. Once you have done that get all of your pictures off that app and onto a cloud based service like iCloud, Google Photos, Flickr, etc. Once you have done that, you can upgrade to 11.0.1 again. You don’t have long though. As soon as Apple stops signing iOS 10.3.3 you’ll be out of luck. That could happen any day at this point.

I had the same problem. After updating to iOS 11 the app couldn't be installed anymore. I tried to contact the developer trough their site but never got a reaction. Today I've reached out to them via their new app Calculator+. See this mail at the bottom of this post.

I've tried a couple of things, but in the end this worked for me:

I've found an old iTunes backup on my MacBook and opened it via the amazing MacOS App iMazing (https://imazing.com/) - I've bought a license to unlock stuff.

Then I've browsed in iMazing to

[backup folder] > File System > Apps > AppDomain-com.flowever.iVault > Documents > .__@__@file@__@__

and there were all my photos unencrypted for me to extract.

BTW: This worked for me on a pre-iOS 11 backup. When I tried to find the same folder on a iOS 11 backup, the folder of the iVault app was empty 😟

I've wrote the developer trough their new app:

I’ve presumably lost all my photos because of iVault Pro wasn’t in the app store anymore. How can I fix this?

Will there be Face ID in the new fake calculator app?

How can I know I wont lose all my photos again sometime in the new fake calc app?

Their reaction:

Hi!

I'm so sorry for the inconvenience.

Something happened in iVault beyond our contorl.and we can't help you to get these photos back, sorry again.:(

But We have learned our lessons from that, the new calculator app is more secure and reliable, and we have been improving the product all the time. You can rest assured.

And we are now planning to develop our own encrypted cloud server, you can back up all data to your private cloud storage by then.

Face ID is not supported for now,but we'll think about it.

Many thanks for your support.

I think it's crazy that they without warning lost all of our photos without any change have backed it up first.

Hope my iMazing hack helps some of you with getting back some of the photos.

Hi,

I also tried this, but the 'app photos' only brought up random logos of some of the apps I had - nothing like actual photos from iVault. Phone Rescue didn't work for me either (stuck on 0%), but Fonepaw did. However, despite having an iCloud backup pre ios 11, it didn't grab the pics I wanted. Is this a lost cause - and do you think iVault have completely lost all our photos? ***** because I had paid for the Pro version. A warning would have helped!

With that said, am genuinely glad that others have been able to get their photos back. :-)

Thank you! After weeks of trying I have finally recovered all of my iVault photos with your help. Fonepaw worked for me (2 others didn't). Worked using an iTunes backup not the actual phone. It was very easy to do which I was surprised about! Obviously had to pay to recover but worth it and great you can see if you can find them before you buy. Worth a try for anyone in the same situation! Thanks again

Dec 2, 2017 10:16 AM in response to Edupa

hi, I have the same situation but I have got the files back.

But most of all, you need to have the backup of your phone, the tools iExplorer ( https://macroplant.com/iexplorer ) can browse your iTunes backups, just download and open it, the iVault data directory is '/App/com.flowever.iValut/Library/user.files', you can export all of your photo and videos to your computer.

I hope it can help you.

I am not sure if you all found out what happened, but the icon and policy has been changed.

I don't want to say, but I have been lucky that I still have the old app on my old device.

I do believe no warning has been given out about the changes and no direction has been given if users accounts can migrate, to either the new application or elsewhere.

I mention migrate, because this was afforded to me on a hosting website when they were overhauling the website.

Something like this should be offered where pictures and videos are kept because of their importance to the owner and the security that is being offered.

My understanding is that the privacy policy has been changed due to the policy imposed on the use of Apple devices.

My reason that I came here was due to me looking to be able to login on a PC, which should be an option, particularly in for reasons like this and it's importance.

I cannot remember if I had to pay for the service, but if I did.

The assurance that our items should secure, should cover the loss of all items and should come under insurance policies that cover users on the matter of damages.

It should not matter if the items were, important, private or any other.

The fact that it was all based on security and payment should always be balanced on insurance.

I await replies on this matter.
