I see no way to do it on my iPad or even in iTunes. This is ridiculous and dangerous. I have important security info that I need to remove!

What happens when you tap on the Select button, select a file, then tap on Delete?

Yes, you select by clicking on it which is what I tried and that just opened it. I'm also new to iBooks, so thanks again. mI have learned it is a great way to save pdf's for traveling rather than carrying paper. New trick for me.
My issue is slightly different, in that when I try to delete pdfs from iBooks on iPhone using Select>Delete>Remove Download, the pdf immediately downloads again from iCloud. If I switch off iCloud for iBooks in Settings, all the pdfs disappear. If i switch it on again, they all immediately download again. I need to free up space on my phone, so does anyone know what I am doing wrong please? Thanks in advance.
That works - thanks! It is so NOT intuitive though.
In iOS you almost always select the file (whatever it is) first, then choose the action you want performed on it.
