Siri/Voice Control Constantly Activating By Itself?

So the other day, my iphone 7 started fast forwarding my music (in spotify) on its own and wouldn't stop until I unplugged the headphones. Now, every time i plug in headphones, siri started activating. Since turning off siri, now voice control pops up constantly without pressing any buttons. I see no way to actually disable voice control, only to turn off pressing the home button to get to it - which i have already done.

This happened with a pair of skullcandy earbuds that did NOT have any control/button on it, and persisted with another pair that does. It is popping up more and more constantly as I use them to try to listen to my music and is very frustrating.

I have looked all over and seen tons of people have had this problem, but none of the solutions have worked for me - and it seems the causes aren't even the same. Most people narrowed the problem down to the control/button attached to most earbuds that you can adjust volume/change songs/etc with, and this started with a pair that did not even have that! I have blown for dust in the port and the adapter, I have tried multiple pairs of earbuds, I have gone to a Verizon store, I have disabled the function that makes voice control appear when you hold down the home button, and none of these solutions have done a thing. Please, please help. It is quickly getting out of hand.

Hello, thank you for the response.

I backed up my phone to itunes, and did a full restore. Unfortunately, the problem is persisting, and popping up even more constantly as time goes on. I really don't know what to do anymore.

Hello lucyb91,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that Siri and Voice Control are intermittently and frequently being initiated when connecting headphones with your iPhone. You've done a great job trying to get this resolved. I'm happy to help.

If you haven't already, try restarting your iPhone. This can resolve many unexpected behaviors.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue persists, reinstall iOS with iTunes. This can resolve possible software issues. When reinstalling iOS, iTunes will completely remove your current software and install a fresh updated version. While iTunes will try to do this without removing data, I recommend backing up your valuable content before trying this step.

Have a wonderful day!

You can turn off both Siri and Voice Control in Settings>General>Accessibility>Home Button.

However, I think your actual problem might be your headphones. Are you using the headphones that came with your iPhone? Or are you using a different pair with the adapter? Or something else. Try different headsets.

One other possibility is that there's something amiss with your headphone jack. If changing headphones doesn't resolve the issue, make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. For evaluation.

I've already gone to accesibility -> home button -> and turned off the function that makes siri and voice control appear when you hold down the home button. It hasn't made a difference. Voice control still appears every time I try to use headphones. I've tried four pairs of headphones including apple and skullcandy, some with the control button attached and some without - again with no difference made. I ordered a new headphone adapter because at this point I don't know what else to try.

That makes it sounds as if you've only been using headphones with the adapter. Have you tried the ones that came with the phone?

at this point I don't know what else to try.

The next step would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store for evaluation.

Ok, I though lucyb91 had made that clear already. This is an issue that only occurs with the adapter involved.

No, they never said that. They mentioned using multiple different headphones, including one from Apple (without specifying which model) and doing lots of different things to troubleshoot, none of which indicated that they had narrowed it down to the adapter. If they had, there would have been no reason to restore the phone.
