Nobody here is fully qualified to give you the firm answer you demand.

Even if they were able to get the 16 digit card # somehow and the expiry date from a device, the 3 digit CVV is never stored on the device. it is always blank when you go to that section of your device.

When asked for it, it is sent to the bank for validation, but not retained.

Without the CVV, the other data has less value.

Use strong passcodes and passwords and that is the peace of mind you need.

Okay let me make this clear basically.

-Can they decrypt the number and obtain the full thing to use elsewhere on other websites??

-Can they simply copy and paste the number even with it being encrypted and use it elsewhere

-What is the worse thing they can do?

need peace of mind tbf

No, they cannot decrypt the number without hacking into Apple’s own servers. The actual number is not stored on your devices at all. It is associated with your AppleID but it is only saved on Apple‘s own hardware which is heavily secured.

No, they cannot copy and paste from your device, iTunes or AppleID management page - all they can copy and paste is what is displayed, which are asterisks.

The worst they can do is use the iTunes, App, iBooks or Mac Stores as you. But if prompted for Account verification with the CVV number or such, they are stuck.

I would add, they can login as you and read your iCloud email, or iMessages, lock you out of your devices, remote erase your devices via find my iPhone/iPad. This is one of the reasons that new devices activated under iOS 10.3 are require to ever after use two factor authentication as well as a password.

If you're looking for a nice "warm & fuzzy," simply compare with the old days. You buy gasoline and give the attendant a credit card. He disappears into the building and returns several minutes later with your card and your receipt. Not only does he have a complete copy of your card number, the expiration date and the security code, so does every employee at the station! They even know what your signature looks like so they can fake it if necessary.

Another "warm and fuzzy..." IF you're in the U.S., federal law gives you protection that most persons do not know about. If your card is lost or stolen or compromised in any way, the MOST that you're responsible for is $50 even if you fail to report the issue to the credit card company until after the bad guy uses the card. You are responsible for $0 after you report an issue. THIS LAW APPLIES ONLY TO PERSONAL CREDIT CARDS. IT DOES NOT APPLY TO CORPORATE CREDIT CARDS. IT DOES NOT APPLY TO DEBIT CARDS. Further, if your credit rating is good and your reputation with the specific credit card company is good, you will likely not even be charged the $50.
