Depending on what you are trying to do, the direction

to look may vary ~ so you'd have to be more specific...

The main 'control panel' in Mac OS X, and later macOS

is available in Dock or under Apple Icon in main Finder

& is called System Preferences. Other means of control

exist among settings from within applications.

IF you are looking to add or replace a User account avatar

that is different than changing an icon on a folder or file.

The 'view' options can be used to change several items,

including how item icons may appear in folders; to include

spaces between them, and size of the font in their names.

If you are trying to make an avatar or folder icon on desktop

appear larger -- that is another matter also.

Some general areas to look may be in Help, from Finder menu

bar; see the Mac OS X searchable viewer appears from there.

IF you do choose to look into your Mac system help, the window may look

a bit different depending on the version of Mac OS X your Mac is running.

Seeing your thread sit without activity for awhile does not say if you

resolved this issue, or you could have posted elsewhere for a reply.

The built-in Help viewer could be good for several items:

User uploaded file

{by clicking Mac Help - [do not use Search] - you get a list of possible topics}

Details are helpful when asking a question, and because you can post images

from your computer by using the camera icon tool in the text box, shortcuts

to copy your desktop items so they can be uploaded is a matter of doing so.

Sometimes a good book for an older Mac OS X may be found at second hand

stores for less than retail publisher price, I have some 'Missing Manuals' by

pogue, or other authors, for several older Mac systems. Usually when I gift an

older Mac to someone who hasn't much experience, I try & find them a manual.

Hopefully you've resolved the problem or discovered a workaround.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
