From linked Apple article above.

"The new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. Apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are now exclusively available in the new App Store for iOS. And the new App Store makes it easy to get, update, and redownload apps—all without a Mac or PC."

For those who are still struggling with the update to 12.7 and not having a way to mange your iOS devices on mac. There is always Apple Configurator app on Mac app store. Not as easy to use as iTunes for managing apps but still fairly simple. I had earlier mentioned the use of AnyTrans software, but aside from having to pay for AnyTrans, it has some limitations and is buggy after more through exploration. So Apple Configurator is going to be my go to choice for now. Plus its free! Great way to get ton of apps on a iOS device fast!

I'm not sure why you're replying to me as I am not someone who has expressed interest in managing my apps from my computer. However, it does appear that the Configurator option hadn't yet gotten mentioned in this thread as it has in most of the others on this subject. So, good of you to bring it up,

Just updated to High Sierra and notice that my old version of iTunes will not work. I had previously updated to iTunes 12.7, hated it for what it did to the app structure. Time machined back my previous iTunes and all was well again for awhile anyway.

So if you want to keep the older version of iTunes don't upgrade to High Sierra. Otherwise the Apple Configurator looks like a possible replacement for the apps portions of iTunes. But now the app is called Apple Configurator 2 and it needs High Sierra to function. Won't even download unless you have HS installed.

I just did the HS install this morning and installed iTunes 12.7 again and AC2 as well. Just had a few moments to look over AC2 and will probably need to find a tutorial on how it works.

HI dnorth12,

For those that are on older versions of OS other than High Sierra. If you previously downloaded Configurator you can go into Mac App Store and look through your purchases and download an older version that is compatible. If you had never before used Configurator then yes you are going to have to install lastest OS to use it unfortunately.

Hope that you can get Configurator to work for you, it's not as intuitive as iTunes but I was able to figure out how to load individual apps onto an IOS device. There is even a way to look through your entire history of purchased apps ( even ones you don't have stored locally) and select the ones you need to install.

12.6.3 is no more than a current work-around, and won't be useful for long. Unless Apple bows some kind of pressure, 12.7 and later won't reinstitute apps, and at some point, maybe 13.0, we'll all just have to bite the bullet. This really p***es me off, because I can remember the time when Apple was a computer company, and truly interested in the community of people who use computers. That didn't really stop with the advent of pods, phones and pads, but it's becoming less and less important - and far from central. Phone and pad apps used to be big business, and much of that has to do with something like computer use. The focus has now shifted entirely to entertainment and social media. There's nothing at all wrong with providing such stuff, and it's probably good business. But why does that have to neglect computer and app users (and buyers)? Does Tim Cook believe the only important world is the world of Desperate Housewives and teenie-boppers (of whatever age)?

This is not a viable change. I need the desktop feature to be able to easily manage my app folders. I have two iPhones and an iPad. By having to do all the management on each individual device is too cumbersome. It is also too difficult to search the App store only on my device and not on the desktop. As far as I am concerned, iTunes 12.7 is broken and needs to be fixed.

For example, you update your messenger but it crash on start. Or new version just disgusting for you 🙂

At iTunes 12.6 you can install previous version of application and start to use it. Now, few days must pass before bug will be fixed.

But if Apple let us choose between versions, it solve the problem. Also I want to use selective restore from backup.

Disabling apps management for users now, Apple going to past, not future.

I hate this change. It makes it very hard to backup, update, store, move files to apps. This is obviously a move to disconnect all iOS devices from computers of any kind. I run an iMac, my wife a PC. Now we have to do all this one device at a time. Log in to feedback and complain. Maybe they'll come up with a new app that has all the features that they took out of iTunes. Stupid, stupid idea!

Since I don't keep every app I've ever downloaded on my phone - how do move them back & forth to my iPhones and iPad? I can see them all in the mobile apps folder but now what? Is the expectation that I go to the app store on each device and download it all over again every time I want to add it - to any/all devices????

The document Drew linked to above seems to indicate you can drag and drop.

Agreed. I have always hated searching the app store on one of my is devices. And now the thought of restoring to a phone - all those apps individually - is just too much. This is insanity!

You don't have to do anything individually. Connect device to iTunes, select backup to restore, click restore, and allow iTunes to do the job. App packages are pulled directly from the iTunes Store.

I own 5 Nano's , two iPhones, an iTouch, two iPADs, a Mac Pro and an iMac 27. All my iOS devices are backed up on the Mac Pro.

Since their new "iTunes 12.7" was a disaster for me, I went back in Time Machine and simply installed my backup from 10 SEP so I am back to iTunes 12.6 and problem solved!

So I will just keep using 12.6 and will, of course, NOT update my devices to iOS 11 since that also seems to be a disaster.

Hi and thanks,

I was having all kinds of problems with 12.7 (going to black screen upon closing iTunes ) after having restored it, after first deleting it. So made one more attempt to restore to 12.6. from time machine. But checked the library for for any iTunes files. some itl files hanging out from 12.7 were the issue. Back up and running in 12.6 🙂
