Missing App store in iTunes on laptop

Really odd one, and no, 'restrictions' is not enabled on any iOS device. This is in iTunes 12 on my POwerBook. Suddenly, and with little warning, the entire APPS option disappeared from any menu within iTunes 12. You still get music, films, TV etc in the dropdown menu, and also in the sidebar, but no option for APPS at all? Just entirely gone missing? I can't select apps, or check for updates. Just gone in entirety.

This means I can't see, download or buy apps within iTunes 12. They are still on my iPhone and iPad, no bother, even after syncing. The iTunes in laptop does not recognise that APPS are missing even in sync, so doesn't correct itself and show them. Just nothing at all referring to APPS. See picture. THere was a brief message suggesting that 'iTunes was retuning... etc' and that was that.

No settings have been changed at all anywhere.

From the Apple article linked above.

"The new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. Apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are now exclusively available in the new App Store for iOS. And the new App Store makes it easy to get, update, and redownload apps—all without a Mac or PC."
