Actually, there is a rose gold and I feel very much cheated that apple did this. It's a little hard to tell from the pictures but I bought the Gold Aluminum apple watch series 3. It came in the mail today and I can confirm it is the typical apple rose gold color. It matches the color of my rose gold 6s perfectly. I'm not sure why they advertise it as gold but it is what it is.
Describing colours is a very subjective matter.
The current gold-coloured Apple Watch Series 3 is not the same colour as previous Rose Gold or Gold aluminium cases.
Viewing colours on the screens of devices can result in them looking different than they do when viewed in person.

I just got mine in gold. But it turns out, the gold is actually rose gold (pink color), not a regular gold. I did a side by side comparison of my Watch 2 in gold and Watch 3 in gold, and they are distinctively different gold. I wanted a regular gold NOT rose gold, so I am returning mine for a black one.
I have the gold series 2 and ordered the gold series 3 because I was told it did not come in rose gold.

The Gold Series 3 Apple Watch is NOT the typical rose gold. It is somewhere between the previous gold and rose gold tones. I think the color on the series 3 is lovely. I have very light skin and I think it looks great with my skin tone. I have kept the pink sand band on it and I think it’s neutral enough to go with everything. Although I tend to wear a lot of gray and navy.
The watch is advertised as “gold” which is why I purchased, but when it came I this week, I was super disappointed to see it was in fact rose gold instead.
The gold is rose gold! I preordered and received my new series 3 today! I'm so upset my watch isn't what I wanted. I wanted regular yellow gold but the watch is a rose gold. I'm returning it. So sad I want the silver one now but have to wait 3-4 weeks!
Hi. I have to say that I watched the Watch announcement keynote video and noticed for a nano-second that he said "new" gold when introducing colors, but then never thought of it again. I was surprised also when I received my 3 yesterday that it was definitely a different/darker shade than my original gold sport was. But it's definitely not as "Rose" gold as the original aluminum which was more bubble gum-ish.
I have several different bands, in color and material, and each one brings out a different "tone" in this new gold case. The pink bands it comes with definitely bring a pink tint but my original antique white band that came with my original watch brings out an almost copper tint (I think it's very unique). Then I have a new rose red sport and the saddle brown leather and they brink out more gold and the milanese loop makes a definite 2 tone metal look.
Color is definitely a matter of personal choice and opinion, I was surprised and unsure at first but the more I wear it and see the difference the bands make the more unique it seems to me.
I agree with you 100%. I have purchase several aftermarket "gold" bands and the match the series 2 gold watch perfectly. The series 3 "gold" watch is actually a pink color. Not even close to the gold of the previous series. I am very disappointed!!!
I looked at the site. It said gold, not rose gold. I was a bit suspicious since rose gold was no longer an option and it looked kind of pink. I went to a chat session with Apple and asked if it was gold, not rose gold because I hate pink and they assured me it was not rose gold. I got the watch and it was that wretched pink. I returned it and went back to the watch 2.
