custom ringtones in iTunes 12.7
Apple has removed ringtones from iTunes 12.7. I have a collection of custom ringtones I made myself. Thankfully they still work. But is there a way to add new custom ringtones?

Well, I figured out how to add tones but not remove them. Drag the new tone from the iMac Tones directory under iTunes Media into the Tones section of "On My Device" in iTunes. It's completely ridiculous Apple is making us do this now. But dragging a tone out or pressing delete does nothing. I cannot see a way to remove custom tones, only add them.
I'm still having trouble adding custom ringtones if anyone can help. It is a m4r file ringtone, I've dragged it and dropped to my device in iTunes. It has copied onto my device but into Music and not into Tones.
When you open the Song Info the file kind says its a ringtone?? Not sure what I can do to get it to go to the Tones folder.
Found a solution but it is tedious. Not a criticism of the person who posted it (many thanks for that), it's a criticism of Apple.
Yep. And the iTunes Media directory is under iTunes on your mac.
Yes, it's a stupid "feature" to remove Apps and Tones from iTunes. Looks like we returned to time, when Jobs remove Delete key from keyboard.
Yeah I did change the extension but I could not copy it... would try again using your procedure.... thanks
I wonder, How do we remove old ringtones now?
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice
I just synced my phone with my custom ringtone. Some of the ringtones were made in Garage Band, they're still there. I'm running iOS 11.01 and iTunes 12.7.0.1066.
Thanks Gordon. The only problem is that I do not have the 'Uncheck Selection' or 'Delete from Library' options. Is there some precondition I need to make to see these options?
Scroll to September 19th. You have to click on Manage Video and you double click the tone you want to delete. Hope that helps....
Posting this to help others: I'm running Windows 7, with iTunes 12.7 and a new iPhone X. When I dragged and dropped my .m4r files, they were greyed out. The solution that worked for me was to copy the files in Windows Explorer then go to Tones in iTunes and use CTRL+ V.
