iBooks in iTunes on PC

Hi there,

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes on my PC (and also on my MAC) and I am no longer seeing the iBooks option for the storefront. Is that normal? The version i downloaded is 12.7.0.166

The options are music, TV shows, movies, podcast and Audiobooks. Where did the ebooks option go? Anyone know? I'd like customize my storefronts on both my PC and MACs to default to iBooks.

Thanks for any help.

THIS IS A TERRIBLE IDEA. In the pass, with ITunes. I could manage my books with ITunes. That were not purchased through ITunes. (Manuals etc.) How would I go about getting those back on my IPhone and IPad?

I have the same issue: Unable to manage iBooks in iTunes

With the new iTunes version 12.7 and IOS 11.0.1, iBooks can no longer be managed from iTunes. I have about 200 important documents, pdfs, on my iPad and iPhone. In all previous versions of iTunes, these documents were accessible and manageable in iTunes, and it was possible to place them in categories, document the authors, adjust the titles, etc., and then to sync all my devices to insure the documents were consistently available on either of my apple devices or my Windows 10 computer.

With the new Files app, I am able to add documents to my devices and even read them in iBooks, but they are not stored in iBooks and cannot be sorted or placed into categories with other related documents. Many of the documents already in iBooks are updated periodically, but with the new operating systems, all I can do is delete the older versions in iBooks and place the new version in the iCloud Drive which is now in the Files app. The old iCloud Drive app at least allowed these documents to be imported to iBooks, but I'd have to do that on both my iPhone and iPad.

I've left detailed feedback with Apple, but no response and no sympathy. Am I the only one troubled by this loss of functionality? This change rendered iBooks essentially useless.

Thanks, but I don’t use a Mac and I’ve never purchased a book through iBooks. My problem is with PDFs that I’ve created or saved, about 200 of them. With iTunes, I could assign author, category, album, and any number of other organizing attributes to files stored on my PC and my Apple devices. Some of these files were updated periodically, or replaced completely. Syncing my devices with iTunes ensured these PDFs were the same on my iPhone and iPad. Now, with the books tag absent in iTunes, iBooks is essentially a useless App. I’ve temporarily moved some of the files to the Adobe Acrobat app which has its own cloud and allows storing files in user defined folders. I upload the files I want to the iCloud drive on my PC, then them copy to Adobe Acrobat. I’m hoping Apple wakes up and restores the iBooks functionality in iTunes, but I’m not optimistic.

If you go to your iBooks desktop app (not to be confused with iBooks Author), you will find all your previously purchased iBooks. The application icon is an orange circle with an open book. The application is a default install on all Mac OS versions since Mavericks which came out in 2013, I believe. - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201478

Hope that helps!

These instructions (scroll down to the Manually add items... section) explain how to add items directly to iBooks on your iDevice using iTunes 12.7.

Manually manage content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes - Apple Support

You can also use The File Sharing functionality, by selecting your device in iTunes, then selecting the appropriate app.

As to restoring the previous functionality, let Apple know.
