Apple TV 4 “TV Shows” Icon Missing

Three days ago the “TV Shows“ icon disappeared before my very eyes from the Apple TV homescreen. I tried rebooting without success. I tried unplugging it for ten minutes and restarting it, again, without success. Any help how to restore it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Apple TV (4th generation), tvOS 10.2.2

Note you dont need to reset; the icon dissappeared as a result of updating to ios 11. A new feature is kicking in and defaulting based on your location, but you can change this. Got to settings -> account -> and sigh out of itunes and aapp store (not icloud). once signed out, you will see an option for preferred location. set this back to us and sigh in again. Them your icon will be back 🙂

And dont forget to enjoy the rest of the new feature with ios 11... across the devices!!

This helped me, thank you.

I have a US account and I’m based in China using local chinese internet connection. I also have a VPN wifi router that i switch to occasionally so I can get US content on my Apple TV. Even when I switched to my VPN router (with Chicago IP address) it would not come back.

Steps for me:

- sign out of all accounts (iTunes, games, etc)

- perform a Reset & Update in System settings.

- setup Accounts again After restart.

We don't have the TV app over here yet but my understanding is that it replaces Movies and TV Shows, so you wouldn't have had a TV show app anyway. The reason I ask about other icons is that Apple provides a small number of stock apps and if they all disappear often indicates a network connection issue.

Have you checked your network settings to make sure you have an internet connection or tried restarting your network router?

This is absolutely incorrect. I am based in California and have traveled internationally for work and used played US tv shows in Ireland without any issues for over a year. The update to TV OS 11 nullified TV Shows and TV application icons from the system. This is NOT expected behavior and the block is not from Apple. Unless there are new regional restrictions with TV OS, which is not stated in any kbase there is a bug here.

I am from Colorado and have been working in Israel for the last two years without content geographic content restrictions. My iTunes account is US based and I get US content.

After resetting and updating, the TV Shows icon is back and everything is almost as it was. Content is US based, no geographic restrictions. Some descriptions appear in Hebrew and periodically, Hebrew subtitles appear and I turn them off.

All good and I am happy.

Hopefully your assistance will not be the end of the beginning. But, perhaps the beginning of the end.

The TV Shows icon does not appear in any folder. The TV app is also missing.

I tried using Siri to open "The Big Bang Theory", a show we purchased, and the response was there was no such show found. I tried using Siri to open TV Shows, also failure.

The strange thing is that I actually saw the icons suddenly rearrange before my eyes when it happened. I looked on line finding a small notification on Cult of Mac stating this happened to other people the same day.

Thanks

Nope. I am from the US. I have been working in Israel for the last two years and have two more years before moving to Edinburgh. This has never been a problem before.

I went through every menu in the system app checking for errant settings fruitlessly this morning.

This morning, I tried changing the region to Canada and restarting. No luck. I then changed the region bask to US and restarting. Again, no luck. Movie prices appear in shekels and things like rating appear in Hebrew. To weird.

Thanks for your help so far.
