Anyone else reverting to the previous version of iTunes? 12.7 is a disaster.

The removal of the 'apps' tag in the new iTunes is one of the most unhelpful things Apple has ever done (and there have been many of late).. How am I now supposed to manage my iPhone and iPad effectively? It's a joke. I can no longer easily copy files such as pdf and epub books via my Mac!

1. use appzapper to delete itunes 12.7

2. from the previous libraries folder, copy over the last dated .itl file to where your current one is

3. move the current one for safe keeping somewhere else ( just in case things don`t work)

4. rename the one you copied to the location to be itunes library.itl ( or whatever the new one was )

5. Install 12.6 itunes

6. Open itunes and your`re done.

Agree 100% - 12.7v missing Apps management is a big mistake, especially when dealing with large numbers of apps. It's been how long since App Store went on line? That's a lot of apps that have been downloaded and managed on Macs.

Like many I use my mac as hub for downloading iOS app updates for sharing amongst family. That way we're not downloading same apps to multiples devices multiple times.

Not to mention, not everyone has internet speeds of 5mg/s (have less than 2mg/s - pretty sad) or more or are even subjected to download caps with service providers.

iOS apps are getting more advanced and updates are getting larger. Downloading to a mac then syncing devices - like the old days - seems more streamlined process just like we still can with music and movies.

Will be reverting back to 12.6v And will hit the pause button before jumping into new OS's coming later.

thanks all for posting this and info on going back to previous version.

cheers

FWIW folks, I have upgraded my iPhone to iOS11. And guess what?

It still syncs, backs up, and performs all the functions that I normally use with

12.6.2. I can still download apps in the iTunes App Store in 12.6.2 and then

download them to my iPhone. The the app management functions of moving

between screens and groups still sync to changes to the iPhone.

How long this will still continue is to be determined. Perhaps, iTunes 12.7

is required for some particular features or maybe some easier use with the

Files app in iOS and other "stuff" (part of drag and drop stuff?). Although,

don't know if a restore would work??

So for the moment, I am still content.

PS. Still have to get use to double clicking the Home button

on the phone to bring up app switching again. Really liked the

hard press and slide from edge.

I'm using 10.13 now does 12.6.2 work with High Sierra because when I tried this before the application crashed on launch. I didn't use appzapper just the console commands.

12.6.2 is working just fine for me on 4 Macs. However, I did have

12.6.2 installed on them before upgrading to High Sierra and never had

12.7 installed.

However, if you did have 12.7 installed before the upgrade, rolling

back may or may not work or may not work at all iff you did a clean

install, in which case 12.7 would have been installed.

Yes, it's MORE than merely annoying. Some Marketing IDGITS decided to consider this functionality 'feature creep,' and removed it -- without providing at least a comparable full-featured management system for the removed features. Personally, I deeply appreciated the ability to manage all my content for all my devices from ONE application. (Including the Apps, Audiobooks, Ringtones, Contacts, etc. for which they've now removed support.) And to do so with the ability to easily see all that content listed, to pick-and-choose which content I wanted downloaded, which I wanted updated, under what circumstances. Not to mention perform a FULL iPhone backup and restore with relative simplicity.

There are some alternative (far less efficient) approaches outlined by others for doing what you need on the device, but If you'd like to complain to Apple where they will actually see it, do so here and fill out the feedback form.

Well you can still browse the App store online in your browser on your computer, you just won't be able to download apps directly there.

What? You mean restricting the purchase of apps to the same little screen they are meant to be used in? How is that different from any other manufacturer? Seriously that is just a silly excuse to get angry. If you can use the App in the small screen, why can't you look for it in that same screen?

In fact its more convenient since the layout and interface makes it easier to navigate. It's also faster to do so on the device than it was in the slowness that was iTunes on a computer.

As it stands, they don't. As long as you wish not to pay for extra iCloud storage. It's disgusting.

What nonsense are you talking about? You don't need any more iCloud storage than you had before iTunes 12.7. Which could even be no iCloud storage. The only difference I have seen is that the panel for apps is no longer in iTunes. At this moment I am restoring iOS on my iPhone 7+ using iTunes 12.7. All of my music is restoring, all of my settings, all of my apps (I would guess from the App Store over WiFi because not all of them are in my iTunes library with the latest version). I have seen no difference in my iCloud usage.

I have been complaining that I can't manage which apps are on my iOS devices. Read the above. Apple has removed my ability to manage multiple devices from my desktop. Without warning. Took me a couple of hours to revert to a functioning version of iTunes. Which annoyed me... there was a 'stealth' update which reset my app store preferences as well. I'm not the only one to observe this, either. Chew on that.

I don't understand their logic with the changes made to iTunes. Going all music and video seems an odd thing to do, I have never ever listened to music on my phone as sound quality is **** compared to a hifi system, and as for watching video on a mini diddy screen please.

I did find it very useful for downloading updates, app updates and phone backup to my pc, the best thing I loved about that was every time I changed my iPhoneto a new one I just plugged it into my pc hit new phone copy previous one and a few minutes later my new phone was loaded with everything on my previous one.

I'm going to delete it and try to load a previous version.
