Anyone else reverting to the previous version of iTunes? 12.7 is a disaster.

The removal of the 'apps' tag in the new iTunes is one of the most unhelpful things Apple has ever done (and there have been many of late).. How am I now supposed to manage my iPhone and iPad effectively? It's a joke. I can no longer easily copy files such as pdf and epub books via my Mac!

1. use appzapper to delete itunes 12.7

2. from the previous libraries folder, copy over the last dated .itl file to where your current one is

3. move the current one for safe keeping somewhere else ( just in case things don`t work)

4. rename the one you copied to the location to be itunes library.itl ( or whatever the new one was )

5. Install 12.6 itunes

6. Open itunes and your`re done.

I am not going to 'upgrade' my main iMac to High Sierra until I have given it a full work-through on the MacBook. I use the iMac to run my phone and iPad etc., so I shall install the new iOS on the laptop first, and test whether I can still revert iTunes. If it doesn't work, I shall just do a clean reinstall on the laptop from my clone drive and go back to Sierra.

A website does exist:

There's the top charts website featuring a list of Top free and paid Apps.

And there's there's also the Category page, though not quite as nice or detailed.

I have no beef with Phil0124, you, or anyone else on this thread. And I'm not sure how my response can be interpreted as a belief that Phil0124's thoughts or feelings, or anyone else's that are contrary to mine, are illegal. We all have a right to our opinions and I simply expressed mine in hopes of affecting change.

Yes, people on this thread are vocal and posting here because they are either stanch defenders of Apple (who I am usually an 100% supporter of) or are not happy. But that shouldn't and doesn't mean the other billions of users that haven't weighed in are alright or don't have a problem with the change. Some will feel what's the use in complaining and take the changes in stride. As you point out some may not know that the community and this thread exists. The context of my minority reference was in relation to the number of posters in this thread.

I see my response as no different than speaking out on the injustices in the world. Just because there are only a few vocal individual who speak out, it doesn't make the injustices okay or right.

I tried downgrading from 12.7 to 12.6 but it seems that it can't open the .itl file because it says it was created with a newer edition of iTunes. I just had an issue where I synced music to my iPad Air 2 (still on 10.3.3) and although it said the sync was complete this morning I found that it was missing a bunch of songs and albums are incomplete. It took me 2 hours of troubleshooting yesterday and it still wasn't fixed.

I think this is probably the best point at which to end this particular discussion. I expressed an opinion, and requested advice. It seems my initial comment provoked rather more of a worm-can opening than I could have expected. However, it has been interesting to observe how high feelings are running in this situation... which certainly provoked ire in me at first, and some of the more colourful responses have been, shall we say, 'entertaining'.

However I now wish to absolve myself of any further responsibility in this matter. Happy 'iTuning', everyone!

You're right it is a forum for exchange of technical knowledge between users. Perhaps I should have used other terms in my statement to express the opinion that it is not - rules or not - uncommon for some comments of experiences to be added to a conversation.

I believe no one here is bashing Apple, we are merely shaking hands and saying, yeah I had that experience as well and I understand where you're coming from. Here's what you might want to try.

I don't feel it necessary for you speak terms and policies of conduct here. I seem for have offended you for some reason so apologies for that.

Without an open forum of conversation, isn't it kind of one sided and pointless ?

Ive been waiting to hear feedback about the compatibility of iTunes 12.6.2 and High Sierra before installing the system update. so I just want to clarify what you are saying. - Are you telling us that iTunes 12.6.2 works with High Sierra and that installing the system update didn’t automatically install iTunes 12.7? ...if that’s correct then can you tell me if you reverted back to iTune 12.6 after rejecting 12.7, or never installed the new iTunes at all? ... my concern is that, even though I reverted to the previous version, having installed 12.7 may still cause the problems you are suggesting might occur.

THANK YOU!

My son did this for me in less than 5 minutes a couple days ago but it reverted back to 12.7 (due to auto-update). Smart son is out of town and I couldn't figure it out (after reading 2 other articles with instructions) so I made an Apple phone appointment. Spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with them - Apple could not figure it out and said I would need to revert my entire mac to do it (which I know isn't necessary).

Your instructions worked perfectly - even I understood them. Very grateful for your time and expertise. Thank you!!

I'm constantly amazed at how much the behavior of Apple products can vary while they are, in theory, running the same software. I understand that Windows and Android have such a variety of devices to cover, getting consistent behavior is a major challenge. It's all obviously more complicated than I realize. I do wonder how much OS updates leave behind old code that can cause glitches or drain batteries. I see a lot more complaints about updated phones than new ones.
