Linear movement for shape mask

I'm trying to keyframe a vertical movement for a shape mask but it is definitely "smoothing" out the beginning and end of the move, kind of like a bezier curve. The object that I'm masking is moving at a consistent speed but I am unable to track it with my mask because the mask's movement is not linear.

I know that a normal object transformation has the option to change this movement from "smooth" to "linear" but I don't see any way to adjust the movement characteristics of the shape mask.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

IIf I understand correctly you have some object in your clip that is moving and you are applying a mask to follow it. There is no choice of linear vs smooth, I'm afraid.

Since the mask movement doesn't exactly match the object's, I believe you need to adjust it by adding intermediate keyframes. If you have Motion you may try using its tracking capabilities; and there are tools for tracking that can do what you want but cost money. For what you describe I believe SliceX would work great.

Thank you for the reply. I have tried key framing the intermediate steps like you mentioned, but the bezier in and outs are still there which makes it almost impossible to sync up.

I have SliceX but the object that I'm tracking is not actually an object, but rather a slow rolling horizontal band that spans the entire frame which was a result of LED lights screwing with the shutter speed. So I'm trying to keyframe a moving color mask to correct the issue but it is proving very time-consuming and not all that effective.
