Airplay will not work with Sony TV

Hi - I'm hoping someone may have run into this before. I have been using Airplay as long as I've had my Apple TV, but on an older Panasonic tv (no issues). I recently got a Sony TV and while Airplay still appears as an option on my MacBook, once I click it, the tv just goes to a black screen. I checked the model kdl-32bx320 and software version 1.12.580 and according to Sony that seemed to be up to date. Not sure what else to check?

I'm on a MacBook Air with macOS Sierra 10.12.6. I checked for Software Updates for my mac as well and the system says it's up to date.

I've googled but can't seem to find any other things to try other than updating software, which seems to be up to date?

Any help would be appreciated - and I'm not sure if this should be posted in another community or not but this seemed to be the only one close to what my concern was.

You can use AirPlay to mirror your Mac to Apple TV (not everything is AirPlay compatible). Your original post made it sound like you were not using ATV with the new Sony.

To display copyrighted content, you need to use HDMI cable that’s HDCP compliant. Your old TV probably did not check for this, so it worked. With the new TV set, you may need new(er) HDMI cable.

AFAIK, AirPlay doesn’t work directly with Sony equipment. You still need to have Apple TV as the receiver that then sends the signal to your TV. Instead of AirPlay, you can also just share your iTunes Library with your ATV over your Wi-Fi network.

Thanks for the response! So if I'm trying to mirror my Mac screen itself (ie for Chrome or Kodi) it can't show even though AppleTV is the receiver I'm using? It can only show what's on the Apple TV itself from Apple products (ie through home sharing)? Specific to Sony I guess since it always worked with my Panasonic.
