how do I safely eject garmin from macbook

I need to know how to safely remove supplemental hardware, after using them, without harming my macbook pro OR the hardware. The issue this AM is with my Garmin, now that the installation has completed.

Mac Pro, iOS 10.3.3

Just right click (secondary click) on it and select eject.
