no volume control with multi output or aggregate device

With imac late 2009 with OS Sierra 10.12.6:

When I try to get audio output through both connected blue tooth speaker and internal speakers via utilities/audio midi set up, cannot control the (master) volume anymore!

Applies both for multi output device and aggregate device.

Has anyone found the solution for this?
