A way to reduce home screen zoom when closing apps?

iOS 11 is quite cool!

One effect is a bit disorienting though. Whenever I close an app the home screen background zooms.

Is there a way of turning that off, but still leave the app opening and closing effect?

I know I can “reduce motion” in accessibility, but that turns off the app open/close effect too. I just want to stop the home screen background zoom effect. It’s making me queasy.

Here's the final result - from my feedback to Apple:

In iOS 11, whenever you close and app, the app closed with a zoom and also the background has a very large, noticeable zoom.

I talked to an Apple tech person about this and they confirmed this and after talking to engineering replied:

"You are correct in that this is more noticeable with iOS 11. and unfortunate for you, but this is operating the way that the development engineers have designed for it to work. If I were you, I would provide feedback with the link that I provided, asking for a feature to be able to adjust how intense this feature is for future software updates."

My friends who are seeing this new behavior in iOS 11 mention how it makes them queasy. I had to go into accessibility and turn on "reduce motion."

Can you please give an option to reduce that background zoom.

I just got off a support chat with Apple. They were able to reproduce the problem on two iPhones running iOS 11. Here's a summary:

  1. I took a screen recording and tried to send it to them via their support File Send feature. However that feature said it didn't accept mp4 files. The tech person will report that oversight to their engineers.
  2. Then he tried to "share my iPhone" which worked under iOS 10, but doesn't appear to work in iOS 11. He will be reporting that to their engineers as well.
  3. Then I tried emailing it to him, but there was a slash through the play button on his end, so he wasn't able to play it that way. A problem with their email handling of the files apparently.
  4. I then put the screen recording in my Dropbox and gave him a link. He was able to play it then. I showed opening Safari and closing it three times, and my background wall paper zoomed away each time.
  5. Then he said, "Wow! I have never noticed this before. Mine does it as well." He confirmed it is happening on the two iPhones there he tested running iOS 11.
  6. It doesn't happen with the iPad 5th generation using the same wallpaper. Just on the iPhones.
  7. It doesn't have to do with the still/perspective setting of the wallpaper.
  8. He will be reporting this as a bug to the engineers. They are supposed to get back to him in 3 to 5 days and he will let me know what they say.

If you are not seeing it on your iPhone, perhaps it is the wallpaper you are using. I'm using a picture of my pet java sparrows.

I suppose if this annoys me too much that in the meanwhile I can switch to a plain background.
