Can't play ringtone in iOS 11

I’m happy for you that you was able to get ringtones restored. I tried that (twice) without succes.

Because that doesn't work in all situations.

My iPhone 6s Plus will not play a ringtone.....how do I fix this?

It fixed mine too. Yeah! But now the sound on incoming calls is so low I cant hear except when on speaker. Plenty of volumne other times.

11 months and several iOS updates later, same issue. How crazy is this?

Glad you feel better. I do hope you know this is a user to user forum and Apple isn't here. Actually, ranting is against the TOU we agree to when we join this user to user forum. I get your frustration, and I don't mean to trivialize it, but it's a ringtone. You haven't lost use of your phone. And your memory of Steve Jobs and assertion products were somehow less prone to issues is somewhat hazy. Even under Steve there were goofs, issues, iOS updates that caused more issues than they fixed. While Apple beta tests these iOS upgrades very carefully, the reality is once out in the wild, things will happen that no one anticipated. Doesn't make the process bad, but one has to recognize that when millions upon millions adopt a new OS, there are going to be things that didn't come up in Beta testing and weren't expected. We have two IP6 phones. Both under the same Apple ID, so shared ringtones, apps, pictures and music. After updating, one of the phones never lost the ability to play a selected downloaded ringtone. The other one did. So we just bought another ringtone (we get bored of them anyway) and that's that. Until Apple releases an update (which they surely will) and we get the function back, which we surely will.

What Ringtone Program? It's not like it's an App on our phones, so I'm very curious what you think one can delete and reinstall?

Because some purchased ringtones work and other don’t, and mine was a customized ringtone, I suspect the issue may be in the format of the audio file or something along those lines. Nothing else makes sense.

What I did was sync with iTunes. Then go to Settings>Sounds and Haptics>Ringtone,scroll to top of page>Download All Purchased Tones. Worked for me. You might have to try those steps a few times. I now have all my downloaded tones.

Channeling Steve Jobs on this forum is considered very poor taste. And let me remind you that even under his rule, iPhone's weren't immune to issues. Remember Antenna-Gate? That was under his leadership. There were other significant blunders with iPhone that happened when Steve ran Apple. So don't go there now. You can download a new ringtone and be done with this. It's simple. And I bet you spend more at Starbucks than a silly ringtone costs.

"Buying" the ringtone again helped me - itunes said that it is already purchased and offered to download it - I agreed and it worked (though there were no changes in the list of ringtones - I deleted nothing, nothing new appeared)

There is another option, use GarageBand. It means creating your own loops, but as long as you have the music on your device this is doable.

You can also save the sound email or message it to someone else and as long as they have GarageBand they can install the ringtone too. (Search YouTube for how to make a ringtone using GarageBand)

If you bought a new ringtone and paid $1.29 for it and it doesn't work as a ringtone, use the Contact Support button at the top right of this page and connect with iTunes Support to get a refund. When this call happened, I purchased a brand new ringtone for $1.29 and it works just fine on iPhone X.
