AirPlay not working after ios 11 update

Trying to play music from iPhone 7 with iOS 11 to my Sony SRS-X88 AirPlay speaker. Sometimes iPhone connects to AirPlay but there is no sound and sometimes it does not connect at all.

Does anyone experience the same problem after update to iOS 11?

iPhone 7, iOS 10.1.1

I believe the problem (of my Marantz M-CR510 receiver no longer working with Airplay after upgrading to iOS 11 is now finally solved).

At the urging of a second level support engineer when I called in to Apple’s support number (1-800-MYAPPLE), I used iTunes to completely reset my iPhone to factory settings. Then I set up the phone as a new device, and, viola, I could again send music to the Marantz from my iPhone!

My next step was to erase all content and settings on the iPhone and restore it from backup. And again it worked. Problem at last solved. Thank you, Apple.

You might (as I did) ask why just erasing content and settings would not do the trick. Why reset the phone using iTunes? The answer is that iTunes does a more thorough reset because it removes and then reinstalls the operating system (iOS), which the Reset of all Content & Settings that you can do just using the iPhone itself, does not do.

My next step is to follow the same procedure with my iPad pro, which has the same problem.

You can find instructions on how to do the iTunes reset by Googling.

Good luck to others who have posted with the same issue. I hope this fix works for you as well!

After going through the standard less involved fixes - rebooting both the iPad and Apple TV and resetting network settings on the iPad, and, finally, turning off Blutooth on the iPad (all of which I first went through at Apple’s suggestion), I would consider doing what I did if the problem persists.

First, back up your iPad to iCloud, then connect it to a Mac running the latest version of OSX and iTunes, and then do the factory restore (if you Google “factory reset with iTunes”, you should find instructions.). It sounds harder than it really is - actually it’s pretty straightforward.

Once you’ve done the iTunes reset, set up the iPad as a new device and see if Amazon streaming is now fixed. If not, I suggest making an appointment at the Genius bar at the closest Apple store.

If it does work after you’ve done the iTunes reset and set your iPad up as a new device, erase all contents and settings (under Settings>General>Reset and restore from your iCloud backup. If it works after that, you’re home; if not, time for the Genius bar.

There definitely is something flakey concerning Airplay in iOS 11. It apparently does not affect all iOS devices, so I am guessing it could be a low-level memory leak, which can often be fixed with a fresh install of the OS. That’s why the iTunes reset may fix it, as it did for me. Upgrading to the iOS 11 point releases Apple has done so far — 11.0.3 is the latest as of October 19th — did not do anything for me, but you also could try that before going the iTunes route.

Good luck!

Stumbled upon a fix that worked for my iPhone 7 + ATV 4th gen.

AirPlay audio streaming would no longer work (I would pick my ATV from the AirPlay device list and after a second or two the check mark next to it would disappear and audio would not stream at all).

I switched off Bluetooth altogether from the Settings app (not the partial switch-off accessible via the Control Center) and it took care of it.

Hope it helps!

Not sure if you still have this issue or if this will be helpful. Nonetheless, I have a Pioneer VSX-LX101, I went to Network settings on my receiver. Under Wi-fi Setup (by selecting Start) there was an option titled "Use iOS Device (iOS7 or later). Selecting this started the process to setup a new airplay speaker on my iPhone

After no resolve and many software updates to iOS 11.. it's just wasn't getting fixed. I ended up having to completely blow out my phone and start from scratch to get it to work. It's doing much better now and connects about 87% of the time. Usually if you completely turn off the wifi on the phone and turn it back on.. it will allow the airplay to work using the Pandora app. If not.. a full hard re-boot of the phone is required and then it will connect.

I did some more reading in this thread and found solution. I was trying to play internet music ( spotify , Pandora) and lost AirPlay. However, when I open Spotify, there is a little icon that says more device, I click on it and can see Airplay and my panasonic sc-63 receiver. I select and it connected to IPad. I verify same access tp Pandora.

Good luck.

As shown in another thread, the fix to my problem was simple. I was having problems with video via AirPlay disconnecting after 3 minutes, which I think is not the main subject here. It turned out I was initiating AirPlay in the wrong way, using the Mirror function in the Control Panel. That's the only way I knew. It worked before iOS 11. The two other methods are to use the icon under Play Music in the Control Panel, or to use the (other) AirPlay icon in whatever video application you are using. These worked perfectly. I had not been aware of either. It does not sound like the problems here will be so simple, but I wanted to share this FWIW.

I too still have this same problem. iPhone 7 running IOS 11.0.2

Ever since ios 11 I have to reboot my phone every single time in order to use airplay. It will connect but there will be no sound. The appletv is off when I connect but always turns on automatically when you activate airplay from your iPhone. It still turns on, just no sound until the phone is rebooted. This is the same for both Pandora and SiriusXM apps. I hope a true fix is released soon.

Alternatively the developer Marantz, in this case , may need to do some work on their end.

This is common scenario where developers need to update their products following Apple updates. I gather that is what the developer conferences are about, Apple helping developers ready their products.

I’m running into similar problems. with Shaw Open Wi-Fi. Since iOS11 I haven’t been able to log into a Shaw hotspot. Shaw is apparently “working on the problem.”

Also I have discovered a few little problems viewing Readdle PDF files in AppleFiles folder. A problem I believe traces back to Readdle.

It’s not always Apple’s problem when they update OS releases. The developers sometimes run into problems keeping their products up to date with Apple’s releases.

Of course. But I am not sure that applies in this case. Last June, Appleinsider reported that Apple would be supplying firmware updates to its partners to enable Airplay 2 functionality — the ability to send an audio stream to multiple devices at the same time (incidentally, this capability has been available on the Mac for years). But the legacy functionality of Airplay was supposed to still work. It doesn’t, not even on Apple TV.
