iOS 11 Podcast app "Mark as Played" Missing

How do you make a podcast episode "Mark as Played" in the iOS 11 update?

Similarly, is there anyway I can see which podcasts I am subscribed too and which I am not. I liked being able to see that in the old version because some serialized podcast I try to listen in order and it was a handy way of telling difference podcasts apart.

In short, the new Podcast app does not seem like an improvement.

So I updated on Friday and went to play my poscasts this morning on the way to work and will only play one episode at a time, very frustrating and non-intuitive, IMHO Apple in their wisdom have broken a functional and intuitive app.

With the new version you have to click down 3 levels to add to a playlist, still haven't worked out how to autoplay all new episodes overall, not just a single station.

What I liked with the pre-ios11 was the unplayed episodes easily accessible on the front screen where I can see in what order they arrived in and will play in and easily delete or remove an episode I don't want to listen to. Easy and intuitive!!!

I encourage those not liking anything about the new podcast app to provide feedback to apple here: Feedback - Podcasts - Apple

In short, no. They took a well functioning app and made it appallingly unhelpful and difficult to use.

Podcasts cannot be marked as listened to. No way to set it to play the next podcast. No way to view the length without going to the individual podcast. Played and unplayed podcasts are listed together. No list of podcast subscriptions. "Listen Now" displays deleted podcasts.

I believe Apple has turned its back on podcasts.

Stan, what you are calling Podcasts are Shows in the new Podcasts app jargon (why the change, I don’t know). Click Shows on the Library page and you’ll see only the Shows to which you are subscribed.

If you search for a podcast and it has a Subscribe button (left pic), you have not subscribed. Those to which you have subscribed are missing that button (right pic).

That is how I used to filter which ones I have listened to by marking them as played. Now you can only delete them, well today I deleted the entire podcast not the individual episode by mistake. Now I have no clue now as to which episodes I haven't heard. Seriously frustrated with this update. It is horrible. I hope they fix it soon, I can't take it anymore.

I don’t get it, I’m so dissapointed with the new podcast app. I don’t even like the new look and feel. But I can understand that they want to change the layout to fit better with their other apps.

But why would you remove functions that people really use? I just hope they update this app.

I heard a lot about stitcher for listening to podcasts, anyone know if that is worth trying? Thanks

Agree with all of you here, have been using Macs since the 90s and never in my life seen such bad software from Apple, they don’t follow their own GUI guidelines anymore, it is so frustrating, that for the first time I have chosen to go with an other podcast app, which has a beautiful GUI and is simply to use, unfortunately I can not download podcasts that are behind a password/paywall. But hopefully that will be resolved.

The new podcast app from Apple is just simply shameful from a company that once pride itself on good GUI and ease of use....

I'm flabbergasted by this release. People have always complained that the Podcast app was a second cousin to the main iOS apps. In it's first major refresh for a very long time Apple have turned it into a convoluted mess which addresses none of peoples concerns and breaks the only elements which actually did work.

If I'm driving for more than 20 minutes and want to catch up on my favourite podcasts do I seriously have to manually que up each one before I set off?

The app seems to have forgotten that I've listened to a few podcasts and keeps trying to make me listen to them again and there is no way to stop it without actually listening to them again?

The structure is messy and unclear and things appear in multiple places with little to no benefit. It seems to take a few too many taps to simple things like listen to a specific podcast.

Swishing an episode to the left removes it from a Station list.. It leaves the episode in the Listen Now list, Available Episodes list on its Subscription page, but not the Played Episodes list. A more cumbersome solution is to hit play for an episode then move the play slider all the way to the right. Either way, the Station list will still easily tell you what remains.

The best reference for the Podcasts app is the iBooks version of the “iPhone User Guide for iOS 11”, pages 917-928.. Search for it in the iBooks app. A smaller PDF version is the "iPhone 7 User Guide for iOS 11," pages 315-318, at http://file.iphone7manuals.com/iPhone-7-User-Guide-for-iOS-11.pdf

The queue can be managed. It just moved. Tap on the episode currently playing. Then drag up and you’ll see the Sleep Timer and the queue. For items manually added to the queue on the left side of the row there are three lines. Hold this icon and the row will pop up allowing you to move it to any other location in the queue.
