If you're tapping the buttons in control center, it's a change whereby tapping the icons drops the current connection but does not shut WiFi (or Bluetooth) off; to do that you have to use the slide toggles in Settings.

This is quite handy as you can disconnect from a current troublesome WiFi network without having to remember to reenable it later.

From the iOS 11 manual for iPhone:

Why is it so impossible for you to imagine that, just because you don't like a feature, it might not be "dumb"? Can you not see beyond yourself for long enough to consider that other people may have different preferences than you?

Because the world revolves around him.

I really hope the world never revolves around me. I don't want the responsibility.

You are absolutely right! Like with most things, We the People have and must be willing to wield our power. That power is that of consumers. A swift and clear message to those that think we “need” these functions because we are “too stupid or lazy” to turn on or off automatically, will wake up if the product are no longer purchased. I too love my iPhone/Pad etc., but losing control of these “smart machines” is an effing no-go in my book.

I am also one of many friends having the same problem and on the verge of changing cell phone and service to Verizon.

Thought I was going crazy. My WiFi keeps turning its self on or my cell doesn’t have enough strength when I try to look up or open a site. Example: Walgreens, Walmart and Amazon. For these I must have WiFi on or I cannot open to check on meds or an ordered item. When I am done with WiFi I turn it off and weather I plug in to charge or not WiFi coms back on.

My friends and I are about to do as my grown son and his wife did and get rid of all Apple products. I love my iPhone and have been upgrading my cell, about to get either the 8 or X, haven’t decided yet however Apple will be deciding for me and making me change all and any products I have even relating to Apple

Please don’t make me give up on Apple

I know you are so huge that one customer may not count but consider word of mouth.

Thanks, Sharon of califo

Just to be clear, when you are in Walgreens, Walmart or in Amazon you turn on WiFi, do your business, then go to Settings > WiFi > and turn it off? And it comes back on by itself?

Do you use your iPhone as a hotspot? And why are you turning WiFi off anyway?

I do hope your grown son and his wife are putting software on their android phones to protect themselves. 99% of malware/spyware is found on android devices. Or maybe they just don't care about security.

I can't stand it anymore, this phone is connecting to every wifi in town and My apps do notwork right because they tell me there is no internet. I'm so upset with post Steve Jobs Apple, they simply cannot develop software that works anymore. If I turn off wifi for good I'm constantly harrassed by notifications while driving using google maps if I gray it out then while driving it becomes blue again with no real internet connection and google maps loses internet....If apple doesn't fix this soon I have to go buy ab android phone so I can have data working again. Worse Iphone experience ever and I statrted with the first Iphone.
