ios 11 slow wifi speeds

Updated my 6s and now my WiFi speeds are at a crawl mostly under 25mbs in the same room as a laptop getting 75mbs download speeds.

I’ve done a Forced Restart

Toggled WiFi on/off

Forgotten WiFi networks

Reset WiFi networks

Turned off Location Services

Etc etc etc

The only thing I have done is reset the entire phone 📱

Anyone else reporting these issues?

Try connecting to WiFi on the 5 GHz band instead of 2.4 GHz if your router has the option. This worked for me.

I had this same problem since I upgraded to iOS 11 on my iPhone 6S Plus. I tried everything suggested except for a full restore.

I was connected to my router via the 2.4 GHz band when having the problem. I would get >50 Mbps on my Macbook but <1 Mbps on my iPhone when running a speed test.

I instead connected my iPhone to my router's 5 GHz band and have consistently been getting >50 Mbps on my iPhone now and have had no problem with WiFi on iOS 11 since switching bands.

I hope this helps all of you.

iPhone 6S Plus, and iPad Air 2, with public beta of 11.1 i've started to get this issue on both devices.

I have a 400mbit connection on docsis3 at the moment, and 802.11ac on iMac 2017 model for example is pulling 45mbyte/sec, full connection speeds. speedtest (dot net) shows me 388mbit average of 15 tests within 1 hour.

The iOS devices usually were able to get around 300mbit in other rooms of the apartment. But no longer.

I am getting 40mbit is I am lucky. With the latest public beta 5 of iOS 11.1 i am however getting my upstream again. This was not getting over 15mbit, but now that's 40mbit again (upstream from ISP is 40mbit indeed).

But the downstream is 40mbit, not 400mbit.. a massive and obvious difference.

Over 4G+ I am getting between 60mbit to 100mbit, depending where I am in my concrete apartment. Outside it's a bit higher. 4G appears to be 'just fine'. The issue for me seems to be the WiFi.

I use 3 different speed test apps, 'network analysis', 'ookla speedtest' and a site in safari that lets you get 1000mb.bin files from various locations. The max I have had in over a month now is 44mbit. Resetting, restarting, restoring, etc. Nothing has helped.

Great discussion and suggestions, so far nothing has resulted in anything positive. Well, downgrading to 10.x worked (restoring backup). That restored it just fine. It's iOS 11 that gives me issues, especially 11.1.

I tried "go to settings/general/reset/reset network settings" on my iPhone 6 iOS 11.0.2 and it did not work.

I also tried resetting router, modem, airplane mode on/off, wifi on/off, cellular data on/off, roaming on/off,... but no joy.

Same issue for iPad Air 2 11.0.2.

Before iOS 11 update I got 112Mbps on wifiAC/5GHz, after update 55-60Mbps.

I am not ready to wipe both devices back to factory new state.

MacBookPro on High Sierra 10.13 on same wifi network/router gets 112Mbps...so its not the wifi router/modem.

I believe I was getting 112 Mbps on iOS 11.0.0 (iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2) and slowdown to half speed happened with iOS 11.0.x update.

if i switch to 2.4GHz (wifi N?) I get the same (slower) speeds of 55-60 Mbps, which is normal for that wifi band for me.

MacBookPro on High Sierra 11.13 on same router ac/5GHz gets 112 Mbps.

Chaz,

Since I made the change in router putting my devices on static, outside the router’s DHCP pool, haven’t had issue in 3 days. When I spoke to an Apple rep awhile back, they recommended I try this as well. Don’t know why I didn’t try then. Think it was when I was swapping out my router/modem with cable company and forgot.

The static IP you set up is tied to the MAC address of the device. It’s possible the DHCP interactions with device cause a conflict. Might be worth trying on the one device you’re having issues with.
