ios 11 slow wifi speeds

Updated my 6s and now my WiFi speeds are at a crawl mostly under 25mbs in the same room as a laptop getting 75mbs download speeds.

I’ve done a Forced Restart

Toggled WiFi on/off

Forgotten WiFi networks

Reset WiFi networks

Turned off Location Services

Etc etc etc

The only thing I have done is reset the entire phone 📱

Anyone else reporting these issues?

Try connecting to WiFi on the 5 GHz band instead of 2.4 GHz if your router has the option. This worked for me.

I had this same problem since I upgraded to iOS 11 on my iPhone 6S Plus. I tried everything suggested except for a full restore.

I was connected to my router via the 2.4 GHz band when having the problem. I would get >50 Mbps on my Macbook but <1 Mbps on my iPhone when running a speed test.

I instead connected my iPhone to my router's 5 GHz band and have consistently been getting >50 Mbps on my iPhone now and have had no problem with WiFi on iOS 11 since switching bands.

I hope this helps all of you.

Guys try to test your local WiFi speeds too its easy:

Download the server app to run on your MAC/PC from here:

https://www.accessagility.com/wifiperf-endpoints?submissionGuid=2c97fb9b-8b9b-4b 06-a68e-8aa34b3739df

And then download the client app on your device:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fleet-remote/id1218309561?mt=8

This way you can test your local WiFi speed and see if it's your device WiFi or the test server is acting strangely.

Chaz,

Seems my issues are fixed here, knock on wood.

TW technician came out and diagnosed that cable connection coming into my Condo was hot. Tap is right outside of my Condo, adding extra power to my connection. They called out a bucket truck and made an adjustment at pole and tap. Brought down my downstream power levels within specs. Haven’t had any Internet connection lock ups or drops since.

It it seems your issues are software released for sure. I still think they are tweaking WiFi software.

I will keep monitoring it here and if it happens again, will post.

Supposedly iOS 11.1 drops tomorrow. Maybe this will help? Keep me updated.

I too have have a similar problem which I noticed back in Sept 2017 and only appears to have gotten worse. I have updaetd to 11.1.2 and I see sporactic swings in Download/Upload speeds. This is especially noticable while making phone calls and then doing speed tests. Whenever, I am on a phone (iphone 7 w/Hotspot tethering) my speedtests for Uploads is under 1Mbps. When off the phone it's like 5 Mbps. Download speeds don't seem to be aweful. I use my iPhone as my WiFi hotspot for work as I work from home. As of sometime in Sept I noticed poor performance and as mentioned has gotten worse. I have contacted Verizon and they see nothing at their end and say my phone is configured properly. I set the Cellular data to Data Only and not have Voice over LTE. When I did this and made a phone call my internet connections wouldn't work. So I had to turn it back to Voice and Data over LTE. I think some sort of priority or as mentioned here in the thread a software update has hi-jacked the WiFi behavior.
Just can 't seem to figure this out. It a corporate phone so I don't want to wipe it. Does anyone have a true resolution. I don't have a home router that I am going through so those who have an ISP home service with routers are a different case scenario than myself who is using just the iPhone for both a Hotspot and Voice. Anyone else have a solution or the same issue using just the iPhone as their hotspot and notice that speeds drop while on a phone call?
Hope this information helps others too!

Sorry, neither trick worked for me.

I have 5GHz WiFi and Bluetooth is off...my Speedtest is 60Mbps down on my iPad Air 2, iPad Pro (latest), iPhone 6, and iPhone 7...all with latest iOS. That is exactly 50% of what it was with iOS 10 as well as macOS High Sierra and TvOS (latest versions). However, when I visit relatives, I get 100+Mbps on their routers (e.g. Asus)...but my NetGear R7000 Nighthawk serves 100+Mbps only for macOS, tvOS, and gigabit Ethernet....not iOS 11.

Anyone else with a NetGear router slowing (or not) down?

That’s odd. I didn’t realize this was impacting newer devices using iOS 11.

Using Speedtest while on my 2.4Ghz network: With Bluetooth ON my download speed is ~38 mbps. With Bluetooth OFF my download speed is ~96 mbps.

On the 5Ghz band my download speed is a consistent 116 mbps.

IPhone 6s on the latest iOS 11 release.

I have a D-Link router provided by Optimum, my cable provider. I’m generally happy with it and it doesn’t regularly flake out and need a reboot like my old Netgear router did. So I haven’t attempted to upgrade to something ‘better’ since I think the odds are even that I’d wind up in worse shape.

I hope this helps.
