I found this post on another stream and it worked for me!

“ I might be wrong, but this could be because of how iTunes has just changed. If you go into Sounds & Haptics and for example go to text tone, you see at the top it’ll say “download all purchased tones” have you tried that?“

Apple is well aware of these and other iOS issues. If you look on CNBC dot com, you will see some fact based article related to the entire topic of iOS.

Specifically, Apple is delaying iOS 12 in order to focus on quality and fix several bugs on all Apple devices. The key is patience. Apple is an incredibly smart and innovative company. They will fix all this stuff.

Ummm, yes, well for an incredibly smart company this last OS rollout for all the devices has been as near a disaster as it can be. I have a Mac, an iPad and an iPhone. The new updates have caused problems with every one of them. Not one problem but several with each and the rush to fix has been slow to nonexistent on all of them. Patience only takes you so far when the fix isnt addressed and you can’t use certain functions.

Point accepted. I too have quite a few Apple devices. If we all look at the big picture, I would not abandon my Apple devices. As the alternative of going to Microsoft devices / Andriod, etc is far worse. Who wants malware, bad dll’s, viruses and continuous restarts and hassle. I’ll wait Apple out.

Since 1984 I have been a Mac user. Remember, all software has bugs, that’s a fact. The good news is Apple not only has the engineering and technical resources, they have tons of cash and will always be a technology leader. Just a thought.

Apple is not the supreme leader it once was in design excellence and innovation. The tight grip it has on its operating systems, the locking out of highly useful plugs ins and add-ons, its protections against open sourced innovation, and the closed loop that force us to into their company store make all the claims of Apple superiority hollow and those shouting it blind. Fix the **** ringtones, Making us wait around for OS 12 because OS 12 will bring heaven to earth ain't working for me.

With all due respect to you and any other form members, technology is one of those things that when it works is fantastic. Because we are embedded in the digital age, technical issues will only be overcome by good communication between users, forums that allow the sharing of real information, and ultimately only the strong will survive. Apple will only continue to grow and become even more of a worldwide powerhouse in the technology arena. Just my $.02

After switching to the iPhone X and updating, my previously purchased ring tones did not work, the ring tone defaults to the “Reflections“ tone. No matter which I choose and set to default. Not for nothing but just on a whim I downloaded from the iTunes Store (on the iPhone X) another version of one of my previous purchased tones, classical gas, and set that as my default ringtone as part of the download and it works as the default tone. However when I tried the other tones they still don’t work. Does anyone know how to re-download previously purchased ringtones via the iPhone only, not by way of itunes on a computer?

As far as I know, it can’t be done—either on the computer OR on your phone. I tried to re-purchae one of mine from iTunes and got a message that I already own the ringtone so did I want to re-download it? I said yes, but it didn’t re-download.

I find this extremely frustrating and annoying because I PAID FOR those ringtones FROM iTunes and now Apple has made it so they don’t work. I called and asked for my money back and they refused.

So much for customer service.

How hard could it be to fix this glitch???

This scenario is the exact same thing that happened to me. When I tried to re-purchase the ringtone I got a message that said I already owned the ringtone and asked if I wanted to download it again when I replied yes it said that I was unable to complete the download. I tried both on my phone and my computer.

I contacted Apple support service and went through all the steps they emailed to me to get my ringtones back. None of them worked!

I ended up having to create a new Apple ID and re-purchased ringtones.

I also called and emailed to ask for a refund and was told that it is not possible to refund ringtone purchases as that they were already available to me to re-download.

I think Apple knew exactly what it was doing when they did this upload! Just another way for them to nickel and dime us to death.

Someone suggested that they were going to purchase a Samsung next time they have the opportunity to upgrade. I certainly am considering the same!

I have this problem also since upgrading to iOS 11.2.5 on iPhone 6S. I also have an iPhone 7 on the same version of iOS which is working correctly. I have the same ring/text tones downloaded to both phones all from the iTunes Store. I had to buy a new one from the store and it works on the iPhone 6s now. After I did that, a couple of the other ringtones started working but not as a text tone. You suck, Apple! What a giant waste of money for phones that cost hundreds of dollars and don't even ring correctly!
